Alternity #3 - BumbleBee / CliffJumper

Recommended Posts

Maybe I just missed them, or they are in another forum somewhere... but what did people think of the new Alternity releases - #3 -- with 2 repaints (big surprise) Bumblebeeand Cliffjumper??

I am not a fan of the Alternity line and havn't gotten a single one yet, as i'm holding out hope for BT. The more they keep releasing of Alternity, looks like BT is truely dead. OF course they announced it in the US, but they have not overseas yet - and even released 4 repaints 'after' the US announcement. But it's been close to a year now and no new news - and with the #3 of alternity coming out - i'm wondering if it's really dead.

The only major complaint with BT would be the void of so many 'key' original characters. SO FAR, Alternity has started out using the leaders and key pieces. If they 'continue' this, it will become more and more difficult to ignore. Not sure I can justify collecting a new line that is just too much like the BT's - but if they do like the MP line and stay with the key characters.. it will become increasing hardly to resist.

As far as repaints tho - i like the Bumblebee/Cliffjumper repaint a lot more than the multiple choices of Prime/Megatron.

Anyone that is collecting Alternite line - or other BT collectors - i'd love to hear your thouhts.....

Consider Binal/Alts dead with Alternity and Human Aliance taking their place.

It's sad, but it happens, the Binal/Alt modes where repainted to death, and with no new actual molds in the works, well, it was time.

As for Alternity Cliff/Bee I don't like the figure personaly. The arms and legs just turn me off. I don't mind the mold being shared though as they went the extra step and gave each a nice individual head sculpt.

Does it change the fact that one was a Porche and the other a VW, no, but it's better then Cliffjumper normaly gets. I'm not buying, but I'm not complaining either.

Would I like new Binal/Alt molds, sure. I also would have liked more Beast Wars figures too. Times change though and you gotta move on...

Can't agree with you more Liege....

surely i'd like to see more new molds for the BT line and some new Beast Wars molds but time tells different...

I don't blame you for not embracing Alternity. I'm a big BT/Alt fan, I got Megatron out of curiosity and wasn't impressed at all. So I was ready to forget the whole line, but Bumblebee and Cliffjumper were a pleasant surprise and I'll be getting them. To be honest I think BB & CJ will fit right in with BT/Alts. I would have had mixed feelings if those characters in particular had been given BT/Alt toys, because to me they'll always be minibots, and Bumblebee of course was 'the smallest Autobot' in the original line-up.

Having said that, I'd love more BT/Alts! But we're really only missing Ironhide (w/Ratchet repaint) and Trailbreaker (which in any case is an easy custom from the Nem Prime Alt). All the rest are minibots and might well turn up in Alternity, which for me is the perfect solution...

Well, if it's truly dead.. it's one less series i'm collecting - and I don't see starting another line anytime soon. Not quite a fan of the alternity line, as I see them as BT redundant. They don't offer anything the BT's didn't. I'm also likely going to stop collecting the MOVIE line, as the toys are just getting worse and wrost in their 2nd year -- much like the original G1 toys did (when they became more plastic, too vibrant in color, less realistic, and too many introduced). Seems like history is repeating itself. I liked BT for the reason it went over such a long period of time - instead of 1 year and done as well.

Looks like the MP line is the only one I have active.

I can understand that.

Alts had alot of cool large figures at a very reasonable price. I didn't go repaint crazy, but I have nearly 1 of every mold, and they are great.

Alternity, Prime looks alright, Megatron save for the head would be a better Bludgeon, and the Cliff'Bee mold just isn't speaking to me. It just isn't enough to justify the import price same as Disney, Music Label, and Sports Label.

I like the idea, and the figures. After Cybertron though, the "gotta have it" attitude faded. I use to say I want at least one of each mold, but I find myself passing more and more on figures.

It's not that I'm loosing intrest in Transformers, not at all. I'm just becoming more selective, as prices are rising(while my budget is shrinking), figures from either Hasbro or Takara are becoming more and more hit or miss for various reasons, and I have 3 rooms overflowing with these awesome things.

No way I'm gonna stop collecting, I don't believe I ever will. I will be using more discression though.

As for the dirrect Alt vs Alternity The thing I liked about the Alts where that they didn't start with Prime vs Megatron. Alts started giving new life to some great bots who were sidelined for a while, and they stuck with that.

Alternity started off with 3 Primes, 2 Megatrons, and now the Cliff/Bee mold. Nothing stands out. Now granted there was no shortage of repaints in the Alts, but at least they where spaced out and the characeters where rooted to the source.

It was nice getting an MPish Hound, Tracks, and Jazz. I don't think Alternity is going to offer that type of homage concerning the figures. And thats fine, let the line be it's own thing. But concerning the Cliff/Bee mold as a stand in for the Alt shelf, well, Classics is still filling that void nice with a retail savings of $40.

It looks like CJ and BB robot mode is more in scale with BT than Alternity...

You and me both. Masterpiece collection aside, the Alternators/Binaltech line were EVERYTHING a Transformers fan could ask for. Of course they had many repaints but that's primarily because of the cost of licensing REAL world cars. Alternity is better than anything in the Classics line(I won't even compare the abominations from the Bayformers Movie) but not quite as nice as the Alternators/Binaltech series.

Alternators were the reason I got back into Transformers collecting. If the Masterpiece line didn't exist, I would have made my exit the same time the Alternators did.

I wish I had grabbed Red Alternity Convoy while I had the chance. That's probably the only figure from this line I truly found appealing. I'd buy the Silver Convoy, but the colors just don't cut it for me.
