Alternity #3 - BumbleBee / CliffJumper

Recommended Posts

Prime and Megatron are alright. Outside of the heads though, these 2 suck.

I still think Megatron would be a better Bludgeon though.

Maybe I just missed them, or they are in another forum somewhere... but what did people think of the new Alternity releases - #3 -- with 2 repaints (big surprise) Bumblebeeand Cliffjumper??

I am not a fan of the Alternity line and havn't gotten a single one yet, as i'm holding out hope for BT. The more they keep releasing of Alternity, looks like BT is truely dead. OF course they announced it in the US, but they have not overseas yet - and even released 4 repaints 'after' the US announcement. But it's been close to a year now and no new news - and with the #3 of alternity coming out - i'm wondering if it's really dead.

The only major complaint with BT would be the void of so many 'key' original characters. SO FAR, Alternity has started out using the leaders and key pieces. If they 'continue' this, it will become more and more difficult to ignore. Not sure I can justify collecting a new line that is just too much like the BT's - but if they do like the MP line and stay with the key characters.. it will become increasing hardly to resist.

As far as repaints tho - i like the Bumblebee/Cliffjumper repaint a lot more than the multiple choices of Prime/Megatron.

Anyone that is collecting Alternite line - or other BT collectors - i'd love to hear your thouhts.....

I don't blame you for not embracing Alternity. I'm a big BT/Alt fan, I got Megatron out of curiosity and wasn't impressed at all. So I was ready to forget the whole line, but Bumblebee and Cliffjumper were a pleasant surprise and I'll be getting them. To be honest I think BB & CJ will fit right in with BT/Alts. I would have had mixed feelings if those characters in particular had been given BT/Alt toys, because to me they'll always be minibots, and Bumblebee of course was 'the smallest Autobot' in the original line-up.

Having said that, I'd love more BT/Alts! But we're really only missing Ironhide (w/Ratchet repaint) and Trailbreaker (which in any case is an easy custom from the Nem Prime Alt). All the rest are minibots and might well turn up in Alternity, which for me is the perfect solution...

Co-sign on everything you said. Especially Alternity BB & CJ fitting in with Alts/BT. Alternity BB & CJ are the first Alternity figures I'm getting, and will probably be the only Alternity figures I'll get. They fit in perfectly with Alts/BT, IMO.

Looks like the MP line is the only one I have active.

You and me both. Masterpiece collection aside, the Alternators/Binaltech line were EVERYTHING a Transformers fan could ask for. Of course they had many repaints but that's primarily because of the cost of licensing REAL world cars. Alternity is better than anything in the Classics line(I won't even compare the abominations from the Bayformers Movie) but not quite as nice as the Alternators/Binaltech series.

Alternators were the reason I got back into Transformers collecting. If the Masterpiece line didn't exist, I would have made my exit the same time the Alternators did.

And co-sign on this, too.

I really think the older guys producing/writing/etc for things related to TFers don't get why a large part of people stay in love with these things. They gear it towards the kids, ala dealing with Hasbro -- but the 'staying power' imho has more to do with guys love of CARS! The Transformers, Robots, etc become an extension to that. Men, in general, love their cars - always have - always will. We humanize them, we give them character - and TFers captured this and is why it has had a large AGE following as well. I really don't think the money-makers understand this yet. IMHO, the TFers movie came along because of a larger following of TFer fans - and I think you can trace that back to a lot of people being reawakened to TFers because of the BT and ALT lines. This captured an older audience, who then reintroduced it to their kids as well. I wish they would make a non-animated show that dealt with real cars and nothing but cars. If they dealt with trying to make it more reality based - I bet you would even have a market for a limited edition specialized TF package in the same way the Mustangs had the "Shelby" editions that had various addons - ie, wheels; added headlights; TF logos and emblems; specialized paint colors; etc.

Anyways.. yes.. I think the BB and CJ are great characters that should have been released as BT's. I do like the ORDER in which they are releasing the Alternities - ie, main characters first. I mean really - an entire line of Bt's and no Megatron or Starscream??? Is there REALLY any excuse for this?? But I don't feel like pick/choosing thru a series - i enjoy being a completist. But Alternity is just too similiar to BT's - so it makes no sense for me. HOWEVER, if they continue on and do "NOT" use any of the names that are in BT's.... it will begin to become more and more tempting. Prime/Megatron was a major turn off. The slight difference in scale - also a huge turn off. BC and CJ have my attention - just not enough to make me spend any money. I have to be sold on the entire line, not just a few characters.

This can be said about any figure but... Hey, you don't want to buy it? All the more for me. :P

Now, I'm not spending 50 bucks for each one, but if I see one for a decent price, I'm buying it, no hesitation.

I don't like to compare a figure to other figures, especially from other lines, unless there's something just like it already available. "Alternity is like a small BT line" is a poor reason, to me. If something is good, it's good.

More for you? How many of a specific character are you buying?? That might be a reasonable conclusion "IF" you were consuming them at more than 1 or 2 at a time. If you don't like cherry pie - fine - more for me - i'll have ANOTHER piece. But whether someone else bought one, is that really determining the availability for you to get another one?

Sorry you feel it's a bad reason - but different people collect different things for different reasons. I enjoy being a completist and wait for a good LINE - not just individual characters of diffrent lines. Personally, I think that is silly having so little continuity. But I would never tell someone else THEIR reasons for wanting what they want are poor.

I don't want to start a new line of collecting for them to rehash the SAME NAMES that offere nothing from what I do not aready have. I have a BT Hound jeep - do I really need them releasing another one? If the line was completely different - i might appreciate the differences. But another 'all car' die-cast series does nothing for me when they already had one going. Outside of rehashing names, what's the purpose? If you like them - more power to you. Sorry you don't care for my reasons. But for me- the more they rehash same names - the more I do not like the line -- the more they stay AWAY from used names - the more I may consider it 'if' because they are offering something new. If hey had not released Prime as a BT - this line could be a continuation.

  • 1 month later...

I've saw the BT series..and I thought how ugly they are.. The Alternity line, save for BB & CJ, looks much much more amzing. The BTs was too oversize and looks too distasteful. Their scale was too big. Starting the Alternity line with OP & Meg is a great start. I guess Taktom realized they made a mistake with the starting BT line. I will not get the BTs, but had gotten the black OP and Meg for a start. Shall wait to see whats coming up. though BB & CJ's swift is a let down, compared to the awesome OP and Meg.

dont like these at all...i hate bumblebee...and i mean that as a character....to me bumblebee is another snarf or orko..useless....now i did get the red prime and the silver megatron..and both are fantastic...though i only got megatron becuase he is a 370Z....my favorite series of car starting with the 280Z that was bluestreak that i actually drive in real life...

I got all of them in every color they come in. I love this line and the MP line and that is about it. I look forward to the Starscream and Skywarp versions next.

So far I've got all the molds released in Alternity: Prime in silver and red, Megs in Black and Bumblebee.

I think Prime has the best mold. One of the tail lights of my Megatron broke during transformation (probably did something wrong, but I really couldn't get the lower left leg transformed).

This doesn't mean the Bumblebee mold is bad. It's excellent and easily surpasses the majority of the figures from main lines. The protruding chest really isn't as bad as it looks in the pics: the color, however, is much to lemony for my taste and a darker shade would''ve been nicer. The legs are a bit skinny, so I always keep the guns in place ot bulk them up. I do think it's the most fragile of the current three molds. The legs feel kind of fiddly and on the hip/leg parts is a small joint (to get the legs more straight under the main body) that I think might get loose rather quick.

But overal Alternity Bumblebee is a great mold. Well worth the money and far preferable over the Classics version.

But I honestly don't understand why people would want to include Bumblebee/Cliffjumper with the BT/alt figures. The scale difference really is way off. I know these characters were protrayed as being smaller in the cartoon and were smaller as toys. But then even in the 80's I was already hoping they'd release new version of the mini-vehicles that were in the same scale as the regular cars. (I've always hated inconsistencies in scale within one type of altmode: e.g. all cars should be the same scale; jets at a different scale then cars, but all jets should also be the same scale).
