Same here, it looks like a lot of fun. I don't like the idea of the accelerator suits as part of a GI Joe movie. They weren't in the originals as far as I recall and they seem like an Ironman rip-off. But just as a movie I think it should be enjoyable.

That's a major point of departure from the original...enough for me not to want to see it. With Transformers, sure they changed there designs, but not the basic premise of transforming robots. The Joes are NOT Joes at all in this new movie. What I've seen so far, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, the Baroness, and maybe Destro are promising. Cobra Commander...blehhh. Joe accelerator suits...blehhh. Not happy...but that's just my opinion.

I agree. My point is though, that the addition of new technology doesn't take away from the connection to the old cartoon. It's just another gadget in their arsenal. Even in the old cartoon, they constantly introduced new weapons, vehicles, etc. This is just another piece of tech in their gear. As long as the characters are there, and their portrayal is faithful to the original, then it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm really pleased to see a lot of the popular characters will be in the movie. But I don't recall any mention of Gung-Ho or Roadblock. When I was watching the show as a kid, they always seemed like the two main Joes after Duke and Scarlett. Will they be in the movie?

Roadblock was replaced by Heavyduty. If I recall correctly, it's another issue of trademarks. As for the "main Joes" the top four would be Duke, Scarlet, Snake Eyes, and Flint,

Do you know how long ago they lost the Roadblock tm? I remember the Heavy Duty character first appearing way back shorty after the first cartoon stopped playing. I'd Wikipedia it but I don't want to spoil the movie for myself (which happened when I wikipediaed Wheelie before RotF...)

I can't give an exact date, but his GI Joe Wiki page says that it was some time in the 2000's (Probably when they were doing Sigma Six. However, there still appear to be Roadblock toys being produced from 2002-2005, and again starting in 2007. This does indicate that the issue came up in 2006 during the run of Sigma Six, which ran from late 2005 until 2007. Hasbro did release some Figures of Roadblock under that name as part of some commemorative series figures. Roadblock

The character of Heavy Duty first appeared in GI Joe fiction in 1991 as a heavy ordinance trooper. a very different character from Roadblock. Heavy Duty (RAH) There's no information at all on the Sigma Six Heavy Duty page. But Roadblock's page does indicate that his IDW character goes by the code name HEavy Duty now instead of Roadblock. It's possible that Hasbro was able to secure partial trademark for the name for limited use with the classic RAH and Gi Joe vs Cobra and commemorative toy lines, but don't quote me on that.
