Galvatron

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I have heard the reason behind why Megatron was not renamed Galvatron.

It is utter garbage. I am sick and tired of hearing about how they have to look out for a new generation of fans.

How about paying some homage to the millions of fans who basically gave these guys a job. They say they did not want to confuse people with the name change. Well guess what have those people buy or rent the original TFTM and they can figure it out for themselves. They really are not giving people much credit.

Let me know your thoughts!

To be perfectly honest, they've yet to really flesh out the characters of any of the Decepticons from the first film. Not that this a strength of Old Man Bay, of course, but come on. The reasoning for not renaming Megatron makes sense, and I applaud them.

It would be utter lunacy to ace Megs (with the swiftness, no less) in the first film and then completely reformat him in the sequel--complete with a new identity. It would completely 'no-sell' the pre-eminent antagonist in basically EVERY aspect and iteration of the TF continuity. Of course, setting The Fallen up to be the main antagonist in the sequel doesn't help, but what the hell. Granted now, Mr. Bay has helmed such irredeemably bad shit-sucking shit such as Pearl Harbor, Armageddon and The Island, and he should be held accountable for this--forever. But I don't think he's going to confuse and/or lose his audience in this fashion...and nor is he going to pay any 'homage' to the fans. And why on Earth should he???

Mike Bay does not owe you.

Galvatron needs to be a new character, not Megatron gone bat shit insane.

Galvatron was not bat shit insane until he got dropped into a lava pool in season 3. Before that Galvatron was all business. And they should only change Megatron to Galvatron when they bring Unicron into the movie scene and have Megatron get reformatted into Galvatron. But that's just wishful thinking on my part.

and mine galvatron should only be in 3 if unicron is otherwise it will end up like the RID cartoon which was a piece of crap

With things like the addition of two hillbilly Autobot brothers, does it even really matter any more?

It's the movieverse.

I'm just hoping it makes Hasbro a lot of money so they can keep making more Transformers.

I could not agree more. It is wishful thinking unfortunately. I am glad to see my post got some opinions. Thanks so far to everyone who has stated something as every reply made me think!

The original Galvatron became a different character after Megatron was rebuilt by Unicron. That's what any Galvatron should be. Megatron gets badly damaged, undergoes such a radical change in order be revived and then becomes a new character with a new appearance. He is not simply a powered up Megatron. Movie Megatron getting some spare parts does not mean he should be named Galvatron.

Incidentally, I think that Michael Bay would go for the Galvatron character, especially the insane version of the character.

so true so true...just would be nice if they followed G1 a little more than they do as after all without G1 Mr.Bay would not be raking in the millions! :)

:tflaugh I'm pretty sure Michael Bay was a successful filmmaker before he started making robot movies.

I'm surprised that we still have people whining that the Movie isn't Geewunn enough.

BTW - originally Galvetron was a completely separate character. Like Ultra Magnus and Prime. Different guy. And I have G1 canon (Toy bio / Comic) to back that up too.

Can we see it?

Tech Specs - no mention of being a Megatron repaint at all.... also "City Commander" is about as far from what TFTM presented us as you can possibly get.

And Wiki to show you where Furman was coming from in the comics series...

Well, yeah but if you go by the Bios, alot of the Transformers differed from there show/comic counterparts. They were generalizations of the character and rarely got into specifics.

As for the comics, well in all that Wiki crap, Galvatron was Megatron. On a side note, I'm glad IDW keeps Furman on a bit of a leash. To much time jump crap.
