Best Optimus, Megatron, Starscream & other TF voice actors?

Recommended Posts

Theres been a good handful of TF animated shows since the 80s, and a handful of voice actors who have played the main characters in Prime, Megs and Starscream.

Who do u guys think hav represented each of the characters the best? or who simply sounds the best?

Megatron - Corey Burton

Starscream - Chris Latta

Jazz - Scatman Crothers

Prowl - Wankus

Ultra Magnus -Jack Angel (from G1 Season 3)

Rodimus Prime - Dick Gautier (G1 season 3)

Optimus Prime - my cousin Michelle (from the OTFCC 2004 script reading), runner up David Kaye

finally the live action Transformers has been added to BTVA and with it, the live action Voice Compares for Optimus Prime, Megatron, Jazz and Starscream have been updated.

Check them out!!

Personally I can't wait to hear more of Charlie Adler's Starscream :D

Sign, yet another noob thread about voice actors... okay I'll bite yet again.

Optimus prime- Neil Kaplan(he did I way better job as Prime impo)

Ultra Magnus- Jeff Burton I think his name is... the current voice for him

Megatron- its now and forever IMPO' Corey Burton, with runner up David Kaye. Screw Weilker!

Grimlock- David Kaye... sounds like the original

Starscream- I like the newer voice actor..

Bulkhead- I like the voice actor that also did Broadway in Gargoyles

Rodimus- the voice actor from Energon, idk name.

*rofls @ the name "Wankus"* :D

How come nobody's mentioned Scott McNeill?! Man that dude's so darn versatile! And he's Australian-born! :)

The many voices of Scott McNeil!

Starscream- I like the newer voice actor..

You mean Spongebob in other words.

As a member of the staff here at TFans I feel compelled to warn you that further use of the offensive and controversial word "Coinkydink" will not be tolerated.

First off, I'm not intimidated by your "staff" ranking. Second, there is nothing offensive or controversial at all about Coinkydink. If you look up the origin, it's suppose to be a joke eyeball spelling of coincidense.

coincidentally your sig might be considered far more offensive and controversial (though personally I find it humorous).

Isn't "coinkydink" just a slang derivation of the word "coincidence" (originating from pronouncing the second "c" as /k/ instead of /s/)? I use it sometimes IRL. <shrug>

Megatron - It's Kaye for me.. seriously. Welker is good for that evil Saturday Morning Cartoon villian cackle, but Kaye's got style and finesse. I like to think of my megatron as more of a diabolical leader than a thugish brute trying to muscle his way into everything.

Prime - Cullen.. not to discredit Chalk, he's done a good job with the guy in the past.. Cullen really needs to do Prime's role more often. And thats really the biggest down side of it all. When Cullen is doing prime, it sounds more like the character has age and wisdom behind him.

Starscream - Bleh, they're all the same. I'm gonna go with Kenny. Starscream needs to be over the top, and thats something Kenny is good at. Latta just kind of shrieked and whined.. it's not quite how I picture starscream to be.

AND just because..

Rattrap, Waspinator - Scott McNiel all the way. Kenny tries, but it's just not the same. His voice is way to distinct.

Is it just me, or are the RiD and A/E/C voice actors just not trying? It's as if they just took the money and ran. Considering that some of them (like Kaye) actually did superb voices of the same character in another TF series is just astounding. I'm guessing the dubbing director was drunk the entire time.

The last one was a tough one to call. I love Welker's Megatron. I grew up with it. But Corey Burton's handling of the character is a fucking revelation. I cannot imagine Megatron not sounding the way he sounds in Animated.
Agreed, every single point. Not to say that David Kaye wasn't an admirable Megs, I just couldn't stand the verbal tics (Excellent! YESSS...) Although I was surprised that Agent Smith's rendition, on further listens, actually sounds decent, at least better than RiD Megs.

As for the rest:

Soundwave: Welker, he IS soundwave.

Prime: Cullen, no question. His rendition will always be associated with _the_ Optimus Prime. Chalk and Kaye's Primes are younger, less-experienced Primes, so while their performances are remarkable, I tend to think of them as being Rodimus archetypes. With less emo. And without the Touch.

Starscream: Latta. Special mention goes to Tom Kenny for the best Chris Latta impersonation in 25 years.

Jazz: gotta be the Scatman, yo. Phil Lamarr's an extremely close second, since he's got the vibe goin as well.

Unicron: died along with Welles. No other can compare.

Rodimus: Judd Nelson, role was made for him anyway.

Prowl: Jeff Bennet now owns this one, considering his Prowl has had the most character development.

Ultra Magnus: I can't deal with this right now

Is it just me, or are the RiD and A/E/C voice actors just not trying?

It's not that they don't try, it's just really restricting when you have X amount of mouth movements and time to convey what needs to be said. It isn't like they can add time to the lipsync or anything. It's much easier for voice actors to work with a more loose criteria.

And.. to be honest, AEC had no depth or meaning.. if there's no conveyed feelings, then there's nothing to reflect on.. thus nothing for the voice actors to use. At it's core, it was Japanese Kid's show series and never really tried to be anything else but. *which really makes Beast Wars superior imho

*nods* Voice "acting" doesn't really happen when you're dubbing. You listen to the way voice actors talk about working on a dub compared to pre-lay and it's clear as day that dubbing is a highly restrictive medium to work with. (-_-) I like Kobiyama YÅichi, the seiyuu (voice actor) for Gigatron; I liked how he gave Gigatron varied voices and different personas in each different mode (e.g.: Gigabat, Gigadragon, Gigacar etc.).

Unicron: died along with Welles. No other can compare.

Ironic considering that Welles was putting in even less than a half arse effort into playing Unicron! :) I'm sure someone out there could play a good Unicron if they tried... perhaps we've yet to find him. <shrug>
