ROTF - who here is sick of hearing about it?

ROTF will happen when it happens. Right now we don't know enough to judge it without some guy coming in saying "ASSHOLE FANBOY HATAGE" or "STUPID FANBOY LOVAGE" without having enough information to put him in his place, so it's not worth it.

Right now I'm in a mad scramble to get all of the shit I want before I have to resort of Ebay, land of the tortured sellers.

I agree, but when pushed Yuengling makes me beg to differ :beer

The same as 2 years ago with everyone was screaming how bad TF1 would be, and it turned out to be realy good.

No.

It didn't.

They could've made it a blue movie (didn't they?) and renamed it Bionicle or GoBots, and noone would've known the difference.

But, if you think a Michael Bay movie is "good", there's no sense in talking with you. You're the type that thought the last Indy movie was "good" and doesn't know who Val Lewton, Orson Welles, or even Steven Soderburgh are, or what cinematography or pacing is.

You like crap? Fine.

A lot of people do, or American Idol wouldn't win in ratings and Britany Spears wouldn't sell records.

But don't tell us celluloid excrement is "good", Mr. Lucas.

"why can't they just do like they did 25yrs ago"

Who said this?! NO ONE wants dumbed-down, nonsensical tripe.

"they're raping my childhood"

No...just ruining being a fan for 20 future years, as Lucas and del Torro did.

Yeah they're pushing an envelope, but lets see how it works out on screen befor condeming it, and if the toys don't live up like, well you know what thats on Hasbro for not stepping up to the plate and putting on the brakes like they should have.

Even if it was a 'kick-ass' toy, who gives two s***s?! I buy the toys to have a representative of the CHARACTER I love. CHARACTERIZATION was the WORST thing about the first "film" (although, it's close to being Shia LaBeouf - who ever thought giving Willard a movie should be shot in the kneecaps and left to drag themselves to the hospital), and I'm tired of people thinking that Jazz is a gangsta thug and Ironhide is a dick.

I tell you what I am sick of is the cloud of preconception that fanboy angst that has shrouded this project, as I recall the same gripes before TF1, which again, turned out to be pretty dam good!

Really? As fans, we don't have a right to voice our opinion about how the brand is being distorted and, IMO, crapped on by a hack and his moronic cohorts? Remember, popular opinion is popular perception. Everyone thinks that Frenzy is an annoying crack-fiend boom-box, Starscream is a chicken-legged wafer, and that Scorponok is void of personality.

There are other properties that make certain that their brand is represented right. Hasbro with their movies, definitely isn't doing it.

Oh, and "Mr." Bay, if you want to make bad porn, just make bad porn.

XKCD.com

This is ridiculous. Blind fanboy hatred at its worst (or finest?). I'm more sick of hearing fans complain about the movies than hearing about the movies themselves.

The movie was never supposed to be a verbatim retelling of the G1 series, or any one for that matter. There is such a thing as creative liberty. Bay and everyone else involved with the movie took some basic ideas of the franchise, used some classic names, and made their own universe out of it. Not everything has to be exactly the same as the other stories we know.

I will freely admit that the first movie wasn't as good as it could've been though. Any scene without a robot was mostly crap. It was boring filler material used to flesh out the story of what a transformer is, even though I'm sure 93% of people had some sort of an idea of what they are before seeing a minute of the movie. The scenes with robots were much more promising, and thats why I am looking forward to ROTF.

However, I don't want to keep hearing bits here and there about the movie or the figures. I just want May to get here already so i can get my hands on that sweet new prime!

2 years later it's the same dam thing!

"Damn."

*no one likes a grammar nazi* :tfrofl

First off new guy, Screw off!!!

Now you're just not being a lady.

There's a minimum for years/posts before making (cogent) unpopular arguments...?

This is where we discuss differing opinions, right? I thought this was on a board...?

I point you to Hobbes-timus' reaction to a humorous thread, where he took the opposite side in a much less-measured manner (or your churlish response here).

Music, art, cinema you name it, I've seen it, made it, and can apreciate it on levels you obviously can't!

You're basing this on the fact that I recognize poor film-making...?

I'm sorry your tirade interrupted your tea and Portishead...Or were you just about to screen a Tourneur film? Kurosawa? Rrrrriiiggght.

You've made cinema? You're an artist and a musician, also? Wow. What great artist's presence are we all sharing?

I say this based on the fact that your talking about Lucas!?! Stop being pissed off about how much Star Wars sucks!

Star Wars does suck now. Hey! You got one right. Your patch will be in the mail.

And, Michael Bay is as cheesy, puerile, and emotionally retarded as George Lucas has become. So, the comparison still stands.

Then again, I know how to apreciate whats in front of me or pass on it. No point in dwelling on negatives. I say this as a long term fan who breezed through a year of Animated.

There's an ocean of difference between enduring a half-assed line on news sites and in the occasional traipse through the kiddie aisle and being bombarded by media on all sides for a cinematic turd for 3 - 5 f***ing months straight.

Still, get in the right franchise. If you did, you'd understand that new tellings are par for course here.

If you could comprehend, you'd see that's the problem.

Optimus Prime (or any other character) is no longer a character....it's just a name slapped on to any "good guy" leader, regardless of personality, behavior, or appearance.

Hasbro is the worst at this...

Look at other properties:

Han Solo? Only one, except for useless, fun, and trivial alternate universe comics. Captain Kirk? Very similar appearance and behavior and traits. Spider-Man/Peter Parker? CONSISTENT portrayal.

We all love G1 (besides nostalgia) because of the complex, flawed, and varied personalities given to each individual character. Otherwise, what would be the point? Why wouldn't we have taken to GoBots?

But, hey, I guess Ironhide works better as a brutal arms dealer with no respect for life than an ornery, rambunctious, grizzled veteran with valor. I don't WANT to see Bumblebee, formerly the small, underestimated, chipper, Autobot little brother, urinating on humans and wearing an S&M choker-ball gag.

Oh, and there's no canon, because every line is an alterna-verse. Lazy.

But better off, get a fucking life, cause you just seem pissed off about all the wrong things in lue of actual ones.

"Pot? This is Kettle. You're black."

The word is "lieue".

Seriously, how hard is spell-check?

But, as you told me above, you're incredibly refined and cultured. You knew it was a french word.

Even still, Characters you love!?! Well you know what, those are still on ebay, go live in the past if you can't accept time moving on.

The memorable characters are on eBay? What you can't get on eBay these days!

So, you're arguing that you couldn't imbue those characters with those traits?

And, if one wants to see more adventures with beloved characters, he can't face time moving on...? Hello? EVERY serial/property is based on people wanting continuing adventures of specific characters!

Oh, and if I'm the only one that's doing this and it's so unhealthy, explains Classics/Universe/Henkei. People want to see those 'bots again.

Now I've never condemed anyone for not liking the first film, and only the ask the second have a chance to be released. But since fans should get an oppinion here's mine, GO OUTSIDE!!! Friggin Gyrorobo Looser!

You know, I can't understand Geek Speak, but I know it when I see it.

"Gyrorobo Looser"? Ouch. Really below the belt.

Maybe it was more French. I dunno...

They have some wonderful sedatives these days. "Ask your doctor if Thorazine might be right for you."

You want proper thought out arguments? Don't have this as part of your post then:

But, if you think a Michael Bay movie is "good", there's no sense in talking with you. You're the type that thought the last Indy movie was "good" and doesn't know who Val Lewton, Orson Welles, or even Steven Soderburgh are, or what cinematography or pacing is.

i'm sick of the figures already.... and they haven't even hit the shelves. i only REALLY bought figures from the first movie that cool like dropkick but then i thought "how can i be a collector and not have a single bot that actually appeared in the coolest movie of the summer" so i bought most out of obligation and guilt.

Thats how I got all the Animated crap, well not so much out of obligation, I just wanted to put my money were my mouth was instead of just saying I hate it witout refrence.

With more than half the line up getting ready for auction, my oppion has a strong foundation to rest on. Again I tried it before comdeming it instead of just hating it.

There are some figures that I'm not fond of, but I'm reserving absolute judgement on everything till I hold it in hand.

there was a lot in animated i skipped also.. but it was a line different than we'd seen recently. the movie toys look the same as they did last year so i won't feel the obligation this year to buy as i did with the previous. why buy more of the same? it's gonna take something special to buy any of them.

...really? Did we watch the same G1? Not a single damned character there could be considered "flawed", except maybe Rodimus Prime.

Optimus was John Wayne + Abe Lincoln. Wee.

Ironhide was a gruff redneck.

Cliffjumper was impulsive, and once, Richard Nixon.

Bumblebee was the kid brother.

Starscream was a sad attempt at a traitor...but they don't even get that right (is he a suck-up today? Oh, he's pretending to...no, he's really following Megatron's orders this time huh...)

etc. And let's not forget the fabulous DEvolution of some characters, like the Dinobots, Jetfire, Omega Supreme, etc., supposedly powerful individuals reduced to comic relief or basic transport.

On topic:

ROTF is a Transformers franchise as much as any other that has been labeled "Transformers" and thus is a fair topic of discussion on a Transformers fan board. Hell, even Go-Bots are fair game here...along with...dare I say it...Animorphs. If you don't want to hear about ROTF movies or toys, just avoid the topic. If you want to share your opinion, just be prepared to read opposing views.

Off topic:

I agree that the new movie franchise was a missed opportunity to update and redo G1 in a "correct" (take that as you will) manner, without giant alien school children, alien mermaids and rich human women who fall in love with Autobots, alternate dimensions with wizards, and a Decepticon scheme to use car wash facilities as a cover to steal gasoline from human patrons.

But the new movie went in a different direction and, despite not being more G1 oriented, has garnered a lot of fans. They've enjoyed the first movie and are looking forward to the second movie.

Going along with the Star Wars analogy, there were those who loved Ep1. I was disappointed by Ep1 at first, but I eventually came to accept it for what it was, and then I was able to enjoy Ep2 and Ep3 (and now, the Clone Wars) more.

...really? Did we watch the same G1? Not a single damned character there could be considered "flawed", except maybe Rodimus Prime.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. I don't think I said "on the cartoon", but not interested in reading if I did or not.

BLUESTREAK: "Haunted by memory of Decepticons..."; "Often inhibited by his disdain for combat"...; Talks too much (that's how he got his name before Has-blow "lost" it.)

BRAWN: Sometimes cantankerous and hostile to 'weaklings'; In the comic, he went nuts and thought machines were his imprisoned comrades; rash.

BUMBLEBEE: Annoyingly sunny; Named BUMBLEBEE.

BUZZSAW: Couldn't wake up in time to be on the set for his episodes.

CLIFFJUMPER: "His recklessness often leads to actual blow-outs..."; Sometimes incorrectly called "Blow-Out"; "Impulsive", indeed. Always accusing Mirage of being a traitor.

FRENZY: Was in the cartoon all the time, but called "Rumble"...Single-handedly started the FIBRIR/RIBFIR debate.

GEARS: Do I really need to review Gears' personality flaws?

HOUND: Got beat by Rumble, and then trapped under rocks that *Spike* could move. WHILE SWIMMING. Didn't realize that underwater breathing masks are for those who respirate; Thought every problem would be solved by a hologram.

HUFFER: "...is cynical, hard-boiled, and pessimistic. He looks at the world...";"Often unhappy and home-sick for Cybertron"; Wanted to "cut-and-run" on Earth for Cybertron; Has only managed 1.5 toys over the past 25 years.

IRONHIDE: Bloodthirsty/impulsive; kind of a redneck; Gruff/ornery.

JAZZ: "...prone to be distracted"; Shot flames at human ally Sparkplug Witwicky, inducing an MI; kidnaps small British boys and skeezy energy magnates; always trying to dance badly or force his loud music on everyone around.

LASERBEAK: Doesn't really have a personality...beyond being a bird, which is what he's supposed to be; is a coward, according to official literature; Sits on the shoulder (literally and figuratively) of whomever leads.

MEGATRON: Motto on bio card should have been "Decepticons retreat!!"; Tolerates a known usurper, like, forever. Full of hubris.

MIRAGE: Reluctant warrior who might be a traitor ("can't be fully trusted"); Can only be in camoflage on race tracks in Europe.

OPTIMUS PRIME: The MOST bland character in the cosmology...possibly any series ever. Superman has more character than the cartoon Prime! In fact, the writers made him into Superman, making the rest of the Autobot troops entirely useless. Also illogical at times (transport to Oblivion, anyone?). Actually, in the comic, he didn't seem to have much of a personality flaw, other'n losing the Matrix constantly.

PROWL: Nobody listens to, despite his cogent arguments and sharp tactical planning; Downgraded to a one-eyed owl!

RATCHET: "Sometimes his having a good time interferes...."; Has insecurities about ability as a warrior; Defeated by the Mechanic!

RAVAGE: Always mistaken as a dog...; "Light-sensitive. Can be blinded". For a saboteur, he rarely sabotages anything.

RUMBLE: He's a brash punk; Can be confused by the "Who is the doppelganger" or "Which one is lavender and blue" questions?

SIDESWIPE: "Rash actions often lead to injuries..."; Used the term "Jet Judo" as the series' worst joke.

SKYWARP: "Not too smart; Would be useless without Megatron's supervision."

SOUNDWAVE: Entire bio card entry; Goes whichever way the wind blows, in regard to his sycophance.

STARSCREAM: Traitorous (allegedly); "...sometimes overrates himself."

SUNSTREAKER: First Transformer to be accused of being...you know; "Egotist...Not a team player. Can be baited into dangerous situations..."; Lets those that fall behind, fall.

THUNDERCRACKER: "Doubts about his cause sometimes..."

TRAILBREAKER: "Often mopes about his handicaps..."

WHEELJACK: "He is his own worst enemy. Often injured while..."; A little too excited about creating an Autobot corpse monster and then putting humans' minds in it; proponent for Dinobots when they clearly were a danger to everyone.

WINDCHARGER: "...impatient. Short attention span. Often burns himself out due to...".

Those are just the series 1 characters.

And let's not forget the fabulous DEvolution of some characters, like the Dinobots, Jetfire, Omega Supreme, etc., supposedly powerful individuals reduced to comic relief or basic transport.

So...the argument you're making is that...you don't like the cartoon...?

I am in total agreement that the plots and scripts for the original cartoon were LAME.

And, obviously the personalities for those characters you mention must have been good for the fans, because those are some of the most popular characters.

Now you're just being a twat :P

Coming from someone with the moniker Gash?

Ironic.

You're a cu*t. See? I can be a fourth grader, too. Seriously, ad hominem attacks alone are really sad. It's what someone does when they don't have a point.

So yeah, you want respect and people bringing proper arguments to the table, earn it...

I don't want the respect of Bay fans.

Nor do I give a damn about what someone who engages in cosplay thinks about me.

Someone started with asking the board's opinion on whether or not they're sick of hearing about RotF.

And...someone else made a false statement about the first movie being "realy [sic] good".

I really liked "The Rock," "Bad Boys 2," and "The Island." And "Transformers" is my all-time favorite movie. I'm still in awe of it every time I watch the DVD.

So you better not talk to me.

Gladly.

Seriously, I saw your handle and I've no interest.

Holy s**t...I found someone who liked Bad Boys 2....That's gotta be rarer than a gay black Republican. Must be one of the producers.

(Your name ensured that I wasn't going to, anyway).

Wow. A human being that "really liked" Bad Boys 2! That's gotta be rarer than a gay black Republican. I wonder if he worked on the crew or something.

Seriously, where are all the other Boarders with disdain for Bay's mistakes that I normally see posting?
