Just a fun little thread about something I have noticed (and bugs the crap out of me).Why in the world are G1 Transformers and Beast Wars put in the Anime section of video stores. Neather have anything to do with Anime (from RID on its Anime, and the Japan cartoon's I can see being Anime). Both were made by American companies and both were American ideas (not Transforming robots but calling them Transformers, Autobots, Decepticons). I have had the agument a couple of times with people that word at Suncoast ( I know them by the way not just some loony) that its not Anime and they are like yes it is, then I educate them and they to now share by belive that it’s not Anime. The hole Transformer universe was made by Hasbro and Marvel, and the Cartoon was done by a American studio (same one that made GI Joe so way isn’t that in the Anime). I know some argue that the toys were from Japan and the idea of Transforming robots was Japan, well that’s like saying the US Godzilla movie is a Japanese movie just because the idea was originated in Japan. Beast Wars also was totally Hasbro's (Kenner's) idea and again the cartoon was done for America (I think the company was based in Canada, not sure). Well anyhoo what are all your takes on this I say not Anime.

I say yes and no.

Yes, because Megs had a d*** rubber duckie! You got to be evil when you scream at ppl with a rubber duckie in your hands ,and uhh thats all I got......

According to IMDb.com, G1 was at least partially produced in Japan. As such, it can be considered "anime".

Beast Wars was done by a Canadian company called Mainframe (who also did "Reboot"), and is in no way related to "anime". Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo, however, were done in Japan.

When I was young I would watch cartoons like Voltron, Mighty Ortons, GI Joe, and Transformers. The first two were anime, the last two were not.

Thundercats was also animated by Japanese animators. I don't think that show qualifies as anime, does it?

I don't think it does. But you never know

The crucial difference here is "where did the show ORIGINATE?" I don't care if it is animated by a bunch of Japanese animators; so is the Simpsons. Your point? Gen 1 is CLEARLY an American show that, like just about everything else, was farmed out to an overseas animation house to get put together for cheaper. (How many cartoons are even animated in the USA nowadays? I seriously don't know so I'm asking, but I'm guessing it's not a lot.)

As for Beast Wars... anyone who calls that "anime" should be immediately strung up by their balls. There's no excuse for that.

BTW Megatron's duckie RULEZ!!! :tflaugh

I'm pretty sure the Simpsons is farmed out to the Koreans. I know Futurama was.

I think we see it in anime sections cuz its got bots in it.. lots of em.. and thats like japanese staple next to Godzilla and the like.. just a general speficiation..
