Fresh Looks at Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock

Recommended Posts

We already have some updated T-rex molds in the TF universe. Although they are more accurate representations of the T-rex, I don't think they are successful toys. Also, this is what Grimlock looked like and I personally find it more interesting ...more classic. Should Godzilla be made to look like a modern idea of a T-rex? The Hollywood movie, tried to update him, but i'll take old school Godzilla any day.

MP toys are a homage to the original G1 Transformers toyline and cartoon. It combines the high quality of the original toys and puts them closer on model to the iconic G1 cartoon characters.

Animated Grimlock > Masterpiece Grimlock for me.

Transmetal Megatron proves you wrong.

well, its a matter of taste I guess. But as I say, MP Grimlock appeals to the older fan.

Some of them, anyway.

I wonder if its possible to pose him in dinomode in a more "scientifically/biologically correct", "Jurassic Park" pose?

Tilt him forward 45 degrees.

Thats wha I did with G1. It actualy works real well.

I just gotta point out that 25 years ago, the scientists were certain that a T-rex was built as is (basically) G1 Grimlock, and now they think different. So imo, they really DONT know & are just guessing. ... still! There is no 100% correct way of building the T-rex's bones. Only educated guesstimates. So you can complain all you want about the differences, i dont care, but realize that not everything is black & white. ;)

G1 homage.... or modern updates?

I think it's clear the MP line is paying homage to G1.

And I for one like it. I don't give a Rex's behind if it's drug or 45 degree forward. It pays great respect to the G1 likeness.

What I find more curious, is the future direction the MP line will take. Will they stay in the early years.. will they stay with the 'leaders'...(and the seekers were merely sidenotes due to same mold useage to maximize some profits)... what characters will be next..

FOR ME.. i want the entire first year cast. I would also settle for the leaders and key figures (ie, soundwave, bumblebee, etc). But the minute they start doing insecticons... and the figuers that drove me away from the original G1 TFers to begin with... i'm done with the MP as well and will no longer feel a need to be a completist on this line either.

But VERY happy with Grimlock. I preordered two of them.

I also wanted to point out that i really think the Starscream (seeker) mold wasn't originally intended to be in the MP line, and more designed for the Military Alternators line we heard such little about. And this is why so much difference is from the leaders, to the seekers i bet.

Someone that was on the web in those days that knows might be able to back me up, or proove me wrong. Speculation & hearsay.
