Simon Furman Answers Questions from the Fans

Recommended Posts

I'm just saying that Simon Furman is the one who could clear up the Prime legacy and who all have held the Matrix and was a Prime since he has been a part of every comic continuity

Well so far we know most of IDW's Prime lineage.

blank-->blank--> Nova Prime--> Sentinel Prime--> Zeta Prime--> Optimus Prime

So really, we're all just interested in the first two no-names. And I'm not sure there's enough to work with there to justify a mini-series.

Though a Legacy of Primes pack would be :awsum, even if it is just IDW's take on the Prime lineage.

*wants Nova Prime toy :drool*

He may be hired to write the comics by all the companies that have held the license, but he can't impact Marvel's continuity while working with Dreamwave or Dreamwave's while working with IDW. Each licensee means a new continuity, each new continuity means a different Prime, each different Prime means a different origin to who that character is. Unless the licensee were to somehow gain ownership of the previously published works of the other companies, they can't interact that closely.

That's just how it is.

Thats not true, Dreamwave's continuity is basically brought over to IDW.

Not really. There are similarities, but the two continuities are distinctively different.

For example, War Within didn't happen in IDW. We know this because the events of IDW'S Megatron: Origins and Spotlight: Blurr tell different versions of the start of the Great War compared to DW's War Within.

Also, DW's continuity featured Unicron, while Furman has said neither Unicron or Primus will appear in IDW's continuity.

Just because Furman didn't have plans for Primus and Unicron to "appear" in IDW's ongoing continuity, does not mean that they don't exist. Primus' name is invoked in Megatron: Origins, for example. Also, The Thirteen, which is being touted by Furman himself, as well as Hasbro, as being the "definitive" origin story for the entire TF mythos, will apply to all continuities past, present, and future. And remember, Hasbro owns everything.

No.

If I want the Dinobots to have been created by a blind gibbon thrown back in time and through to an alternate reality from the Animated continuity, then that is what happened.

Not in the official continuity, I grant you, but anyone who disagrees with my blind gibbon theories in my own collection is welcome to bring it up with my auto-reject email address.

Was the blind gibbon powered by decepticon super-science like the "murdered puppy"?

Please say yes

Yes, but only as a backup, it was powered mainly by fanboi angst and nerd rage.

It grows more powerful with each passing day, and I fear that the release of RotF shall make it Powerful enough to travel even further back in time and create the naturally occuring Gears and levers that it sprung from in aeons future, and thereby create a paradox of logic and stupidity that will cause a backlash of nerd rage and fanboyism that even the genre blind Jedi shall feel, therby ensuring its dominance of all time!

I've put a lot more thought into an offhand comment than I really should.

I'm with Asthaloth and his Gibbon.

Hasbro changes the origin every time they want to sell Prime in a new hue of red.

I don't care who writes it or who owns it, Transformers is more of a sub-genre than a coherent story.

If Hasbro and Furman don't like it, they should have thought of that before there were 15 continuities with 4 origins per character in each universe.

Even the TF Wiki says that Transformers continuity is a mess.

And we all know that the TF Wiki is the only legitimate source of Transformers information.

Hasbro shoppers...try blue! It's the new red!

:tflaugh uncomfortably applicable
