Simon Furman Answers Questions from the Fans

I think it would be sweet if some of the bigger names in comic writing put some work into Transformers... but that's just a pipe dream...

Oh Mark Millar and Grant Morrison, why won't you return my calls?

Cause they know you're ghey.

Same reason they won't return my calls.

What? A restraining order totally counts as a response. You're just jealous.

I'm all for the massive shifts in focus of wars but it might be nice for it to just being about Autobots vs decepticons for at least 5 comic series

I have a question for Furman:

1) Why are you a hack?

Back off Furman! He's done some good shot - like his entire run in the UK Comics is awesome! I mean seriously, some of the best stuff.

*ignores retarded O13, Religious angle and hopes Hunter won't notice*

Can't wait for the Original 13 Mini-series. I'm even curious about there might be another Cybertron. Though I hope Simon does a Spotloght on the History of the Primes, so we will know once and for all the lineage of the Prime legacy and Hasbro could make a Prime line releasing each Prime.

There will NEVER be a once-and-for-all on the History of Primes, because we've got like a hundred fucking continuities and all that. So it would only be IDW's version.

Considering that Simon Furman has been a part of each Transformers Comic Continuity, he can easily do it and state once and for all.

He may be hired to write the comics by all the companies that have held the license, but he can't impact Marvel's continuity while working with Dreamwave or Dreamwave's while working with IDW. Each licensee means a new continuity, each new continuity means a different Prime, each different Prime means a different origin to who that character is. Unless the licensee were to somehow gain ownership of the previously published works of the other companies, they can't interact that closely.

That's just how it is.

Thats not true, Dreamwave's continuity is basically brought over to IDW. Look at this for an example http://TFormers.com/ig.php?mode=view&a...600&start=0 IDW OWNS all Dreamwave and thier continuity bro. They bought them out, own all their stuff. Marvel is a different story though. :tmyk

*edit* - and i love this *snip* by Furman; .

My job has mostly been to tie up my own storylines
:tflaugh heh heh He always goes off in too many directions. :P (not saying i dont like it though ;) )

Not really. There are similarities, but the two continuities are distinctively different.

For example, War Within didn't happen in IDW. We know this because the events of IDW'S Megatron: Origins and Spotlight: Blurr tell different versions of the start of the Great War compared to DW's War Within.

Also, DW's continuity featured Unicron, while Furman has said neither Unicron or Primus will appear in IDW's continuity.

Best post in thread, easily.

I was unaware of IDW's ownership of the Dreamwave stuff, but that doesn't change the larger point: There are many licensees who have produced Transformers fiction and no one has the authority to give a "once and for all" origin to Optimus Prime because there is no "once and for all" Optimus Prime. :tmyk

And Agent Zero is right, while IDW may own Dreamwave's work, there have still decided to create their own separate and unique continuity. So even though they may have the power to continue those stories, they have chosen not to.
