Short Answer: Bay liked the name "Devastator" better, made the call too late for any movie related merchandise to be changed.

 

I think Hasbro could have changed it (we've all seen those stickers hastily applied over similar mistakes on other toys), but didn't because they wanted to hold some control over their intellectual property - where Brawl's a tank and Devastator a construction equipment combiner.

Yeah, but don't forget there all those novels and t-shirts and other ancillary merch, too. I think Hasbro figured the best thing to do was stay as consistent as possible, even if the thing that deviated was the movie itself.

Other than the toys, I don't recall too much Devibrawl ancillary merchandise - except for perhaps the printed media, and movie novelizations have such artifacts all the time (plus, I don't think he was even in the prequel book). :shrug

My point was that I don't remember any Brawl t-shirts or other such merchandise, and that Hasbro could have easily changed the toy to "Devastator" if they wanted to be consistent with the movie. And if that made the novelization "wrong" it wasn't like anyone would care.

Ravage is fairly interesting! As for Megs...still on the fence & trying to understand this asymmetrical arm-thingy going on...? And I'm with one of the other posts...scan an earth mode already, dude!

 

Ya know what I'm thinking? He cannibalized parts from his fallen troops in that trench. Why else would he come back as a tank, ya know? Maybe its a part from Blackout that he just thought would be useful.

You may be on to something there...but Blackout was the helicopter; Brawl was the tank.

 

Well, I was more reffering to the lobsterclaw.. And, I know the Blackout didn't have lobsterclaws either. But, eh.. maybe he cut stuff up and pieced it all together on his own? :shrug The tank treads are all devestator though.

 

I sincerly doubt Devestator and Blackout will be back for a second round..
