What an ugly p.o.s. from another movie toyline that will sit on the shelves until it's reduced to clear.

I have mixed feelings about the movie lines, and I'm not totally sold on this figure (as is so often the case, the paint aps are really lacking)-

but you know why the movie lines are still on shelves until they were reduced-

the demand was so huge early on they couldn't keep up with it. Movie line is probably Hasbro's best selling Tformer line in a very, very long time. So of course Hasbro beat it into the ground, and of course stores kept ordering more until they stopped selling. The only reason these things sat on shelves was because they made a lot to meet demand.

You do realize that the despite the shelf warming the Movie line has been EXTREMELY successful?

That's part of why it shelfwarmed. Hasbro was getting a lot of money off of these (dammit why were people STILL buying them a YEAR after the movie...animated took forever to come out! IDIOTS!) so they kept shoving more and more out till they eventually stopped moving....and then got clearanced out. I dread ROTF will bring about more of that, but since it will share the shelf with animated, i'm not as concerned.

Dealing with Dropkick and Ironhide both being pickup trucks of wildly different sizes was bad enough for me.

Actually, the scale between Ironhide and Dropkick is within the realm of real world vehicles. The Arclight Theater had the "Autobots" outside when the film opened, so I got to see them in person and the Topkick used for Ironhide is as big as Prime's semi. I used to own a pickup that would be "deluxe" size by comparison.

This new Soudwave still sucks. But it would look good for a whole other movie. It's funny, Michael Bay justified his radical changes to the transformers with the goal of making them look more realistic and they're supposed to be convincing as alien beings from another planet. If this is the case why do they all have English names (an earth language)? And I know some die-hard Michael Bay devotee will come up with some lame excuse as to how this could possibly make sense given all of the other "necessary" changes.

They speak English to communicate with us. I don't see the problem here, at all.

Also, it's Transformers - I mean a fargin' Jeep is named Hound and a Vanette is called Ironhide. What's the big concern?

You are just trying to find ways to hate the movie more. Which if you want to hate it, sure, knock yourself out. But it's pointless to complain about concerns from the first movie when we already know what is established and done with as far as the style and workings of the movie.

Really? If it's so pointless for me to complain it must be even more pointless for you to respond to something pointless, right???? Anyway, here's another one of my "pointless" points. In the movie the transformers don't simply speak English to humans but they also speak English to one another, Decepticons to Autobots and vice versa. I have no problem with this actually, if I did I would have hated the cartoon as a child and today as an adult. But you missed my point. I was pointing out the glaring inconsistencies in re-making the tranformers as more "realistic" and "alien", but they speak English to one another. That makes no sense. Why would "aliens" do this to one another, especially aliens so advanced that they should be using something akin more to telepathy? Michael Bays' changes were arbitrary and wholly inconsistent throughout the movie. That was my point. Now let's see if you respond to more of my pointless comments.

Actually, having the Transformers speak was a Hasbro mandate. An early draft/concept for the film had the robots more or less "mute", so that idea was swiftly shot down.

The studio had originally preferred the Transformers not to talk at all throughout the movie, a notion Hasbro heavily contested.[13] Bumblebee still ended up being mute throughout most of the movie, which, according to Orci and Kurtzman, was inspired by Spielberg's E.T. and is supposed to signify that his friendship with Sam transcends words.

I like Soundwave better than the rest of the Bheyformers actually. People that do hate the movie do so for a reason, and I think most peeps know why. Forums, in my opinion are about feedback, so if you hate Bheyformers say so! Be as frequent as you like, but be polite about it. It's no secret that Hasbro watches these boards and they do want feedback, even of this kind. And about established movie looks changing in the future...never say never. Reformatting and new looks happen all the time in this franchise. Although if you want Soundwave to be a tape deck again I wouldn't bet on it.

Okay. I wasn't being a douche. Just saying. I don't mind the whole "I hate this or that" about the Movieformers. My problem is the "die-hard Michael Bay devotee" crap and the automatically calling any reasons someone might like the movie to be "lame excuses". And I don't have any wants as for what Soundwave has to transform into. None. I just want it to work within the contexts of the story.

I constantly take insults from people in this forum calling me stupid, or making no sense, or foolish, or even childish. But I don't complain about the insults, I just return the kind words with sarcasm and more "pointless" points. One thing that does annoy me though is the people who constantly attack critics of the Transformers movie, accusing them of batching, and whinning, or not existing in "reality." And other people who accuse you of even not having a right to have an opinion simply because you refuse to pay for the movie. I can watch any movie when the DVD releases and still have a right to an opinion. This is a discussion about toys and cartoon characters for God's sake, not a discussion about the day's most pressing political issues. Anyway, when I first expressed my views here in this forum in opposition to the movie I was greeted with several insults from a few members here. So I said to myself, okay, I love intense heated debate, let's do this. I can play ball too. If people here want to engage if rough-housing then fine, I'm all for it. But no one will discourage me from expressing any criticisms I have.

Criticisms are fine. They lead to discussion.

Pointless complaining and saying that it sucks, with a pinch of name-calling? Less so.

Anyway, the name issue... isn't really an issue. It's accepted that their names are simply transliterations of their Cybertronian names. And as for them speaking at all... two things. This was directly addressed in a panel or something. They could communicate through radio, but it was less "personal." Bumblebee could do this without his vocal processor, but it was said to be akin to IMing someone rather than talking to them. The second, and far more important thing... well, it makes it a better movie. Do we really want to watch scenes of robots looking at each other, talking in their heads? It would be nigh-unwatchable. And the Autobots speaking English to each other is simply humanizing them. Megatron yelling at Starscream in English was simply a G1 fanwank, though.

Just curious though, why did you need two posts? Seems... utterly pointless. It's not as though anyone posted anything related to you in the interim.

I'll say it again. This soundwave design still sucks!

Again, I have no problem with the transformers speaking a human language like English. I absolutely agree when you say that it makes for a better movie. But that's not what I was criticizing at all. I was pointing out an obvious inconsistency that undermines Michael Bay's radical changes to the character designs, especially the Decepticons, such as this new Soundwave figure. Teeth, claws, big monster feet to make them look convincingly alien was a stupid idea. Again, if they're so alien, why would transformers feel the necessity to speak English to one another. I can understand to humans, but not to themselves, if we're going to follow this whole logic of, "they need to be convincingly alien." I didn't need these sort of changes to be convinced that the transformers were from another planet. I didn't need the teeth, the claws, or that they don't need an interstellar space craft like The Ark or the Nemesis. These changes made no sense to me, so that having them speak an earth language undermines the whole logic of them being convincingly alien. Another pointless point of mine, oh well!

Again, if they're so alien, why would transformers feel the necessity to speak English to one another.

Because Hasbro said they had to.
