BeastFormers/Battle Beasts...should they come back?

Recommended Posts

Beastformers were kind of a spin-off line from Transformers (in Japan) known also as Battle Beasts released as a separate toy line in the 1980s. For those of you who don't know of them or don't remember them well, they were about two-inch high humanoid animals in battle armor that came with a heat sensitive rubsign (similar to the ones in many TFs) and a personalized weapon.

So, just out of curiosity...and given their connection to Transformers...what do people think about them? Do you think or wish Hasbro/Takara should bring them back? They have kind of an underground popularity or a large cult following now, I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be, in both new and old audiences, if they were to be resurrected. Any thoughts?

i think kids would love them (they love small collectible things) they WILL need cartoon support though

Yes yes yes and yes.

I'd love to see Battle Beasts make a comeback. I'd especially love to see them done like these little Wrestling toys made by Jakks Pacific. They're about the same size, but the Jakks Pacific figures look to have shoulders, elbows, 'bowing', waist, hips and knee articulation. (I wouldn't mind getting one of those Jakks Pacific figures to see how they work out in playability, but since they're $6 and I know zilch about wrestling, I'm kinda :shrug on it.)

Plus, I think it'd be great if they were part of the Transformers mythos, just so they could re-use molds from the TF line.

The chariots & deployers from Beast Machines would fit in great with the theme. Could also maybe use the Micromaster vehicles like Skyhopper, Skystalker, Countdown(? ...maybe? :P ) and Groundshaker to go up against the old Wood/Fire/Water bases.

I had a few battle beasts back in the day. Although they don't really remind me at all of anything remotely Beast Wars or Transformers related. They don't transform? I wouldn't mind it if they came back.. wasn't too into those things anyhow. Doesn't effect me either way.

I'd love for them to come back with more poseability and explore ALL the elements - Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Plants, and Thunder/Lightning. That would pretty cool IMO. Have like 3-4 figures in a Pack.

i say bring them back under the "robot heroes" line (i'd buy them!)

well I see a few shops selling those little monster things that are blind packed and come with cards so I'm sure if Hasbro/TakaraTomy wanted to bring them back they would do well also the whole Pokemon/Digimon thing still seems popular

as for how they fit into transformers well in Japan they only got the transformer name to help them sell they didn't actually share a story bar I think a cameo as one of many alien races in Victory or master force I think. So they are as much a peace of transformers as GIJoe is to me

They were from the planet known as Beest and were in one episode of Headmasters in which the Autobots went to help the good Beastformers fight off the bad ones and the 'Cons. The Monsterbots were left on Beest as the new protectors of the Beastformers at the end of the episode. Which was pretty fitting really.

I knew it was one of the Japanese shows

That's some good info there. I was wondering why they were attached to Tfs in Japan. My brother still has a ton of them, so it's great to know the connection.

Thanks!
