Awesomerest Blitzwing - A step by step to better shoulder cannons by Matt Booker

"Unlimited bandwidth" is only good til you cause traffic jams or crash a server. ( But I presume you know this in spades :thumb )

Grats on the popularity too! Your first wing mod is what drew me to this board as it was. :thumb

Yep. Consider that photobucket.com gives free users 25 gig per month, and that's for all the images combined.

And that's a heck of a compliment. Thanks!

So much of this 'guide' was nonsensical that I'm still not sure what parts of Swerve you used, among other things.

Sorry you got lost. Like I said at the beginning of the guide, have fun finding things in it. :)

Granted, that's a bit facetious. I try to be as clear and informative as I can, even to the point of taking an average of 20-30 pictures per each scene (At slightly to extremely different angles and keep the best one out of all of them. I'm ocd.) and then edit that picture to point out things that might be lost in the text.

I know a wall of text can be hard for some people's attention spans, so I try to distract with shiny things or a minimate in a purple thong. I'm a big fan of Toyfare, and in addition I usually eschew more formal structures for a wandering style that at least keeps the topic in easy reach, even if it's not in sight at the moment. ;)

If anybody else was confused by it, please let me know. :D

:wat He wound up using the hip section(s) and thigh joints from Octane/Tankor instead of the parts from Swerve.

Yep. Swerve was an unfortunate case of me tearing him apart before finding Octane. I loved the picture I took of him and Bumblebee, and the part with Prime questioning Ratchet about the 'fixed' Swerve was my second favorite part (to Sunstreaker and the Wolverine/Cyclops running theme). And after I actually took the pictures for the Ratchet/Prime scene, there was no way I wasn't going to include it. :D

Thanks for answering the question, though. Much appreciated.

I'm slightly confused by the Blitzwing head mod. I'm not gonna bother with the turrets, that doesn't really bug me much...at the moment. Maybe at a later date (better pick up an extra Octane in the meantime though so as not to destroy my only one).

It took me a few mins to figure it out, but basically, the pin that the faces are mounted on, there is a nub that Matt points out in the pics just under the faces. You basically just need to move/rotate that nub towards the back or front or the neck pin(the entire pen will turn fairly easy), and then the head will align for the most part. This appears mainly to be a design flaw or sloppy QC.

I went out to pick up an extra Blitz and Octane for the same reasons as yours, and as luck would have it, I find Octane all over the place. Blitz flew the coop though, I think he knew what was coming and wanted nothing to do with it.

So was that part a bit iffy? ClockWorkMecha is correct, though. I've seen the issue in allot of pictures of people's Blitzwings, so it seems to be a widespread thing. It's also one of those things you won't notice right away, but when it's fixed there's a world of difference!

Once you take off the helmet, it should be much easier to understand.

Thanks again, everybody.

i love your how-tos man, thanks for bringing some lightheartedness to the world of modifying children's playthings. :yay

Just FYI Booker,

Got the pictures done for the Anti-Guide this weekend with the help of my boys. Unfortunately my getting Universe Classics SideSwipe on Friday had unforeseen results in regards SunStreaker's additional presence. On the bright side, bad things happen to Sentinel Prime.

I'm still trying to find my sonic screwdriver, and I'll probably have to buy another Blitzwing because... well you'll see tomorrow night when I can post it all.

Oh and anyone have another Animated Laserbeak they'd part with? I am NOT going through the dinbots' litter box again.

Excellent guide. Won't be tackling the cannon mod, just too expensive, really. (I just can't afford another figure for chopping up, at least not right now.) The helmet mod, however, I will be doing here in a few. After painting and modding my Classics Ironhide all night, I'm kinda tapped out.

see when I dont want Octane I find him everywhere but now that I want him (granted its to take him appart) I cant find him anywhere LOL

Expense is one of the reasons Ironhide is on my 'meh' list at the moment. Let me know if the helmet bit worked out for you, though.

Just like Activator's Bee, eh? Maybe I should've done a guide with Movie Payload...

Unfortunately no. To be honest, I didn't quite understand it. I tried it, and I see that a nub under one of the faces is causing the helmet to sit sidesaddle a bit. But, I can't get the post thing figured out, so I just slapped the helmet back on and called it quits.

I'm sorry about that. I guess I really should've taken more pictures before I got all glue happy on the helmet.

I may ply my photoshop skills at working up a diagram sometime.

  • 1 month later...

Yeah, it's been awhile. With Blitzwing in hand, I prefer the wings as is, though I may do the first mod. I'll definitely at least glue that helmet down.

A little something I noticed: the bottom of the pin that the faces rotate on has a line running through the center. (you can clearly see it in tank mode) Everything seems to align perfectly with the line going straight up and down. (it should run along the seem for the nose) Maybe that can help people do this.
