If he's s coward he's probably French.

Explain how. Seriously. I'm giving you an opportunity before I internet bash you with history.

Dont get mad I was Joking, but the French have been known to be Cowards in recent history the last 80 years or so.

racist imbecile

Why am I racist? The cartoon itself and many other media, especially anime and cartoons, use real-life stereotypes of race, culture, gender etc to help us, as Humans, empathise and/or understand the personification of abstract ideas such as 2D cartoon 30-foot tall transforming alien mechanoids.

Mirage isnt himself French. The accent he could have, or the other accents other characters DO have do not show that they "are" from a specific area of the Earth, or share the cultural values of those cultures.

Ravage in the Beast Wars had a Russian accent to show his position as an ex "cold war" spy, Optimus has a "all american cowboy accent" to show his position as "leader of the free" and I suggested Mirage as having a French accent based upon his aristocracy (which, incidentally is a word that comes from France), French car alt-mode, his opposition to war (recently France was this too) and some other reasons.

At no point in time have I made the assumption that all french people are the same, that they are cowards (being anti-war is not cowardly in my opinion) or anything else.

Perhaps you don't understand or perhaps we don't understand your point of view. Simply saying "racist" isn't going to help your point of view be explained so perhaps you could enlighten us all with more insight, other than writing abusive terminology?

Well, dont forget that to some Brits and others in the Allies, the USA was also seen as "cowardly" for doing bugger-all in WW2 and only really getting involved when Japan bombed Pearl Harbour. WW1 was a good show of strength by the Yanks but WW2? Vietnam was also seen as pretty cowardly too by some people.

We all have our fair share of skeletons. The UK bad enough, so lets stick to the main thread here. Should Mirage have a French accent?

the "imbecile" part wasn't meant to be an insult it was merely an observation based on your first (incredibly racist) post :)

The Battle of France.

3.6 million wounded or dead. 1.9 million captured. That is not a cowardly surrender, that is a complete thrashing. For some perspective, it took the combined efforts of Britain, Russia and America to defeat the German war machine. France had no way in hell of defeating them, and Petain knew it. He made a decision based on pragmatism over patriotism. (*oversimplification*)

Although that's not to say that the Vichy government was incredibly popular by any stretch of the imagination, and even today the term "Petain" is used by some in much the same way as "Judas", "Ephialtes", "Quisling" and "Benedict Arnold". The French started an underground resistance movement which heavily aided the Allies during WWII.

And has already been pointed out, America sat out of the war for three years, while nations that it had friendly relations with were fighting, only joining the last half of the war once it was attacked itself. That could be interpreted as much more cowardly.

So the next person to call France cowardly based on their surrender in WWII (or their refusal to join an illegal war which has turned out soooo great for the US), needs to stop listening to self aggrandising politicians and radio hosts looking for cheap points, and go read a fucking history book.

The French?

Oh, they're just a bunch of cheese-eating surrender-monkeys.

what that despite the fact the french actualy had more tanks with bigger guns better armour and better engines, and if they could have lasted a couple more weeks the krieg would have run out of bullets and fuel?

they sucked in the napoleonic wars too! they invented margerine ffs! eww

I'm not sure about Mirage, but I do know of one guy that fits the description.

Gentlemen

Spy is from Team Fortress 2 for those of you who don't recognize him.

the "imbecile" part wasn't meant to be an insult it was merely an observation based on your first (incredibly racist) post :)

Again, you have spoken an opinion without backing up what you said.

let's look at my original post again, shall we?

Now, I know that Mirage had an American accent in the G1 show, but if they were to re-use him, in say, Animated or wherever, would it make sense to have him as French, be it French-Canadian, or French-Cajun (a-la "Gambit").

Here's why:

- He is/was an aristocrat

- He objects to the war (Iraq anyone)

- He looks down upon other autobots (VERY aristocratic and dare I say it, stereotypically French?)

- He's a spy (I was thinking of those secret French spys that aided the allies against the Germans in Vichy-France in WW2)

- His name is also French and English.

From Wiki:

QUOTE

"The word comes to English via the French mirage, from the Latin mirare, meaning 'to appear, to seem'. This is the same root as for mirror. Like a mirror, a mirage shows images of things which are elsewhere. The principal physical cause of a mirage, however, is refraction rather than reflection."

- His Japanese name, "Ligie/Rigie" is also from the French Ligier Race Team that were his original G1 sponsorson his car mode:

- His sponsors were also "citannes", a french brand of cigarette:

- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gitanes (I think the name was changed somewhat on the actual toy though)

So, there are many factors that could point out that Mirage is a bit of a pompous, rude and agrophobic French/European aristocrat, eh, non?

Which parts were "racist"?

The French?

Oh, they're just a bunch of cheese-eating surrender-monkeys.
