Well I had lots of posting time today so I thought of this topic. May have been done before but oh well. What do you care for more, the toys that you buy in the store or online to look and play with, or keep minty for geekyness? Or the characters you just love?

Ultimately the toy. I'll buy a toy I think is awesome, even if they character's weak.

A good character, however, can't make a bad toy worth getting.

For the most part I agree with this. Though there's been a few times where it being an interesting character has pushed a toy that I'm iffy on into the like catagory.

But in general I'm in it for the toys. I've got enough of an imagination that I tend to often re-characterize a lot of my figures anyways. :nuts

I like the shows 1st, the toys 2nd. It's all character for me. If I like the character I most likely get the toy, and the toy usually stays in the box.

The character makes the toy relatable, and gives it a semblance of personality, and thats very important. Like Sylvester the Cat once said "Anythings possible in a cartoon" well actualy he held up a sign that did.

The toy though, well, they have alot more to live up to and overcome such as the ever growing QC issues in the TF lines. Beyond that, on our shelves each and every figure is begining a new path. It's origins may be based on a show, but it's livelyhood seems to become something new once out of the box as the story spreads frome page and screen to shelf.

Yep, the toy, each is a living on going episode.

I'm more of a character guy. The TV Show does help me decide if something's worth getting or not, I know that sounds silly but it's true. If you take Beast Wars into account.. the only characters anyone cares about really were the show characters. Its why retarded figures like the original Rattrap and Scorponok are so hard to get because everyone wants one. (still trying to hunt those tards down myself)

Usually though, if I buy a character from an established show.. I'm kind of compelled to try to get them all. I'm something of a completist in that sense. Its kind of how I got tangled up in that armada fiasco. I kind of considered the minicons like armor.. and being I play alot of RPGs I though the concept was pretty cool. Turns out, looking back.. the toys for the most part were crap.. and they really didn't start getting better till about Cybertron.

Animated has been an interesting experience though. The toys are drastically different.. the show is drastically different. But I've REALLY enjoyed both for what they are.

The toy. Character-wise, I'm actually more likely to pick up someone who didn't get much screen time - or any at all. However, if I've already decided to get a particular toy, sometimes characterisation will help me decide which redeco/remold of the toy to get.

Admittedly, though, I have bought some non-transforming stuff (HOCs, statues) simply because I liked the character or the media representation of the toy. (And because they were on sale.)

For me, the character has a big part in it: Originally, when G1 prime came out, i didn't give it a second thought. But then when I saw him in the series, that made all the difference.

I voted toys, but it's really both for me. If a toy looks good enough to me, but the character is some weak thing or extraordinarily annoying I'll still buy it. In those instances persona doesn't really matter to me. On the other hand if it's a character I actually do like, but the toy is absolute :tfpuke I'm not going to spend money to get it. I don't care how much I may like a character I'm not going to waste money on a toy that I really don't care for and most likely will end up dusty on a shelf or in some dark corner of my closet.
