RiD Megatron

Recommended Posts

I bought a MISB RID Megatron recently, and I really dig him. I remember seeing him in stores years ago and thinking, ugh, that's awful. Funny how maturity helps you appreciate the finer things, like older women, The Little River Band, and mini-vans. He's completely perfect, never having been opened, all that nice chrome and gold plate. Quite stricking. If I understand the history, the RiD line was a "placeholder" in the US until a later line could be intro'd, but I can't remember what that next US lineup after RiD was. Was RiD Megatron a re-release from one of the Beast lines?

Of his six modes, the only real clunker is the bat/gargoyle, as it looks like little more than Meg doing some leg-bending yoga while supporting himself on his hands. Speaking of hands, the hand mode is quirky and fun; I suspect someone at Hasbro/Takara was diddling with a prototype and came up with it, sort of a ground-floor fan mode. Robot mode is just killer, nice poseability and very very menacing, I love the articulation in the wings. Jet mode reminds me a LOT of Cyb Megatron's jet mode, w/ a little Energon Skorponok jet-mode in there. Likewise, car mode harkens back (forward?) to Cyb Meg too. I wouldn't be surprised to learn Cyb Megatron was inspired by the RID version.

His feet are pretty weak, tho, they cna hardly keep him standing straight. Any fixes? Thx.

RiD Preceded Armada.

And I very much regret never getting a Megs. My bro had one and completely ruined it.

I love displaying him as two-headed serpent mode. Hun-Grr!! :argh :argh :argh

I had retroactive love for RiD Megs also.

I think what turned me off initially is that He was so far removed from what I was used to seeing in a Transformer.

And the Autobots from RiD were so perfectly what I wanted from Transformers.

But in the last 8 years we have seen enough variations on the theme, and enough changes in Megatron that he is not so off-putting - and his pure awesome is more easily digestible.

Armada was the nest show slightly better story toward the end but the toys were from the stone age by comparison IMO

the toy was new and was not from a past toy line the only Decpeticon to not be a repaint apart from Bruticus who was a left over beast machines toy.

I really like the toy I went out of my way to get Gigatron but.. the chrome has flaked off a lot of it so now he just sits in his box. I might try and get a Galvatron/Devil gigatron but not for some time

if you have the american version you can actually transform him into 10 forms...just not in the instructions. I want that figure sooooo bad in Megs coloring

Is this the Takara version, cuz the Hasbro version I have has a black handle for his swords and a black wrist.

Didn't we just talk about this guy?

Anyhow, yeah, he is awesome, play with him and you can make up tons of alt modes for him. In my collection, I call him Gigatron, and hes an upgrade of Magmatron.

Her realy is a very fun figure, with a demonicly elagent design.
