not seen animegs as a toy yet, but as this is the best toy megs, how did mp get in there? toys are to be played with after all an g1 megs was abysmal (as a toy) dodgy hip connections, ugly as my mother, bad toy! i like energon megs great toy, cyber was cool too but bad colours

good point about MP megs - i think you're a bit harsh on its looks though (it's a great display piece)

i would've HATED cybertron megs as a kid though - far too fiddly to be fun

Unfortunately, I've never owned every Megatron representation, but I must say: from the Beast Era, Transmetal Megatron was the best...the most solid...most fun to play with. From the Unicron Trilogy, it'd have to be Energon Megatron...either color scheme (although technically the purple one was Galvatron). He was just cool looking in general! Out of the most modern...I'm still torn between the $20 Megs and the animated Leader.....although Animated Megs is still "fresh" in my mind...hafta let him marinate, mentally.

I must comment that Masterpiece Megs, for me, isn't all he's cracked up to be. A lot of folks criticized his lanky form initially, but that seemed to cool as more people accepted it. I ended up breaking down and buying an unaltered one off eBay before they really cracked down (hope I don't get arrested). After having him for a while...I ended up not really liking him. I seriously never got the thing fully transformed into gun mode...some parts stick and seem fragile, so I'm perpetually afraid to break him! You can't stand him or pose him well (with his cannon), since he eventually either tumbles, or slowly creeeaks and bends to one side. Oh, well.

Henkei Megatron classifies as a prohibited firearm because it doesn't have an orange tip. Lame, I know.

And I thought we had tough gun laws in Canada :guh

Man, I'm sorry, that sucks.

Can't you just display him in bot mode? I mean in bot mode he looks nothing like a gun so you should be ok.

What are you, some kind of terrorist?!? :P ;) :D

Unfortunately, I've never owned every Megatron representation,

...I need Action Master and Gobot Megatron. *sigh*

As for Masterpiece Megatron, remember that they are trying to incorporate a very lanky alt mode (i.e.: a gun) into a rather bulky robot mode (i.e.: show-like robot). It's not an easy thing to do. Convoy was a lot easier because a truck is a bulky alt mode, so it's relatively easier to transform him into a big robot. If anything, MP Convoy's robot mode attempts to trim down the truck mode's bulkiness, whereas MP Megatron's robot mode is trying to beef up the gun mode's lankiness. MP Starscream and Skywarp do the same thing and again have very lanky robot modes. Also, MP Convoy and MP Starscream/Skywarp's alt modes don't look as realistic from every angle - MP Convoy has some robot kibble visible from underneath and even moreso with the MP Seekers. MP Megatron's gun mode on the other hand conceals his robot kibble from virtually every angle. It is the most realistic looking of the MP alt modes. So when you consider what Takara were trying to achieve with MP Megatron you can see that it is a pretty darn good figure. :)

I think we're sorta comparing apples, oranges, and kiwis here... If you've been a consistent fan of all (or most) things TF, one measly Megatron just isn't gonna do it for you. You need at least four catagories: the G1-themed (for the assorted firearms), the beasts, vehicle Megatrons (G2 to Bay-verse and Animated), and the Odd-balls like Mega SCF and the Shoe-former! Otherwise, it's like handing out Oscars for "Best Everything"! My picks would then be:

Gun: Henkei, with runner-up Anime Galvatron

Beast: TM2 (great mold in red or blue!), followed by RID

Vehicle: E-Galvatron, Armada combined w/ Tidal-wave (haven't seen TFA Leader up close yet)

Other: HOC (w/o flail), maybe Action Master?

Here's my personal "Megatron Essential Check List":

+ G1 Walther P-38 Megatron - Got (I also have Megaplex)

+ G1 Action Master Megatron - Need

+ G2 Megatron - Got

+ G2 Hero Megatron - Got

+ G2 Gobot Megatron - Need

+ BW crocodile Megatron - Got (including CD-ROM Megalligator)

+ BW T-Rex Megatron - Got

+ BW Transmetal Megatron - Got (Hasbro and Takara versions)

+ BW Transmetal 2 Megatron - Got (free gift from Hasbro USA!)

+ BM Megatron - Got

+ RiD Megabolt Megatron - Got

+ Gigatron/RiD Megatron - Got (Gigatron) & I got RiD Galvatron

+ Armada Megatron - Got

+ Energon Megatron - Got (Super Link Galvatron) & I got Energon Galvatron

+ Cybertron Megatron - Got (Legends & Master Megatron) & I got Cybertron Galvatron

+ Classics Megatron - Got & I got Henkei Megatron

+ Ultimate Battle Megatron

+ Masterpiece Megatron - Got

+ Movie Megatron - Got (Leader Class & Legends Ice Megatron)

+ Animated Megatron - Got (Cybertron mode Deluxe), I need Leader Class Earth Mode (haven't personally sighted one yet)

...this isn't including "non action figure toy" Megatrons like Choro-Q, Q-Robo, Mega SCF, Revoltech, Be@rbricks yada yada yada.

RiD Megs. That is all

:)

I envy those who have Darksyde Meg & Cyb Galvatron... :argh
