Toys R Us Financial Problems

Recommended Posts

He just be careful of what you wish for, when competition disappears you might see even walmart charge more for the toys. Right now they just use the cheap toys to bring people in, in hopes that they will buy other more expensive items when they are in the store. So I hope ToysRus can get things together and find a way to be competitive with walmart which is not going to be easy seeing as how all ToysRus does is sell toys unlike walmart who can sell one item (toys) cheap and then make up for the lose of capital with other items.

So, now what happens to the "Toys R Us exclusives? Will we still get G1 reissues if TRU doesn't want to stock up anymore?

Ugh, it's TRU's own fault - overpriced and understocked.

But Walmart, at least in Canada, is even worse when it comes to selection. There's nothing there... I hope TRU cleans up its act and sticks around, at least until the G1 reissues are done!

You are correct. The marketing term for this practice is "loss leader" - items that are sold at cost or lower to attract buyers into the stores.

snowman and trench make some excellent points. if tru closes down all of their stores the only thing that can do to the toy market is possibly make it less competitive and drive prices higher as a result. seriously if you guys dont like toys r us or think they're overpriced, theres a simple solution, dont shop there. I for one hope they dont go belly up because even though i dont shop there too often, if anything its a last resort when im looking for something and as long as they're around other companies including walmart and target will continually try to stock and outprice them on what they carry, meaning if they all but disappear, thats not only less places to get toys but a possible hit to the market meaning there will probably be less stock of nearly all toys to go around because they're will be one less retailer selling them, especially in bulk. Can you imagine a world where only walmart sold and stocked toys (at least in the U.S.), that would be a disaster!

Someone should write to hasbro about what will happen to the G1 reissues if TRU closes.

NOOOO!!!! NOT THE PRIME/MEGS GIFT SET!!!! Man, I certainly hope they don't go belly up. With most stores around here, I actually have an easier time finding transformers, it just takes atleast 3-4 months for things to show up as soon as they hit stores in different regions of the country. And also TRU is the closet toy outlet from my house, about 15 mins away, while the nearest wal mart or target it atleast 35 mins away. And what the hell is up with Wal-Marts name? IT ISN'T SPELLED RIGHT!!! I always wanted to mention that.

Eh? I'm not sure what you're getting at but if you're talking about Wal-mart potentially missing one L in the name such as in wall, its because Wal-mart isn't named after wall per se, but the founder and orignal owner of the Wal-mart corporation (Sam Walton). Thats why Sam's club is named as it is too, i hope that helps clear that up for you.

I'm not to sure where you live in Canada, but lately I have been able to find all the latest Transformers at my Wal-Mart (except Omega Supreme) instead of Toys-R-Us.

The only thing is both stores still don't have any of the newest alternator.
