Toys R Us Financial Problems

It'll be a shame if Toys R Us does end up closing because they tend to have a few items that other stores just don't cary.

Examples:

* G1 Reissues

* Bandai Thunderbirds toys (I haven't seen the movie, and have no plan to because I'm sure it sucks, but the ships are really cool)

* Much bigger selection of RC vehicles

* Some Star Trek stuff was only at Target (not really an issue anymore)

Without Toys R Us, we'll have to rely on the scalpers and overinflated importer prices to get things we want, which ultimately means we probably won't get them.

Bah, they made their own rope to hang themselves with.

One thing I will miss if they go belly up, the clearance sales! When they do a clear out, nobody comes close.

I hope they can get their act together, because I like having more options when I go toy hunting.

True, Snow it is possible it can go the other way and Walmart and Target might raise their prices on toys. However we never know what lies ahead in the future for us wary consumers. I do agree TRU is a viable last option, but even then I rarely if EVER buy anything from them. I just like window shopping and keeping and eye out for heavy discounts from them.

I agree with you on that, I think they do so many exclusives is to pull people in, proplom is they charge to much for them, I'd buy all the reissus from them if the cost was $10.00 per figuer, but insted they slap a $30.00 price tag on them and don't mark them down till their in troble, thats smart, do AFTER you'er in troble :tfmad

And yes, they may well dump TRUs and just do the BRU store :tfmad

I've actually had the best luck with clearance stuff at Target. I bought "Superpants" Armada Prime for $9, Unicron for $13.99, and a huge Princess Leia on a Speeder Bike that was originally $50 for $13. When the Beast Machines Ultra Jetstorm came out, I managed to get him for the price of the Deluxe because he wasn't in their computer yet. I also bought Dreadwing and Smokejumper about a year ago for a decent price. I've only gotten a couple of good deals on stuff at TRU, and none of them transformer related: Simpsons TreeHouse of Horror w/ the Collector and Lucy Lawless for half price and a Star Trek Enterprise phase pistol/communicator set for about 1/3 the price.

My point being, good deals are all around. You just have to be patient and willing to shop for them.

I think that one thing that others constantly point out in other threads, but not in this one, is that toys are for kids. Did you know that kids don't actually buy their own toys? It's true. They have to nag their parents to take them to Toys R Us on a special trip. Once there, if anything is bought, it's the parents who do the buying. So, you can see why places like Wal-Mart and Target are kicking Toys R Us' ass. :tfgrin

Very true. Toys R Us is only going to get any real business during the X-mas season. It's definitely not a place for impulse buying, like Wally World and Target. That's probably why TRU also has stuff from Armada left, while at the same time, the newest tformer I've seen there was probably Snow Cat.

Of course, there is one way in which TRU does cater mostly to adults rather than kids, and that's the G1 reissues. Only those of us with disposable incomes to feed our nostalgia would spend $25+ for toys which really should be $15 at the most.

Just think back to when we were kids. I know that there were only a couple times a year when I would get bigger toys, birthdays and X-mas. Otherwise, I'd either have to spend my own money, which means spending less than $10, or whining to my parents, which also usually meant less than $10 for an impulse buy.

I've had some awesome bulk buying with TRUs clearance prices over the years.

I'll never forget when they put EP1 Star Wars toys on clearance. Something like $1.50 a piece for 3 3/4" figs, delux figs for $3.00 and many, many other cheap prices on speeders, ships and other toys. I had 3 of those huge TRU bags loaded with stuff! I could hardly fit it all in the car when I left. :clap

I also remember buying the whole X-Men line of movie figs for like $3 a pop.

I could go on for days with all the deals I've got from TRU. I will miss them if they go under.
