Fusion is the best primer out there for Transformers. period. it's super thin compared to other alternatives (ie auto primer is one of the thickest ...it even typically says "sandable" on it)

1, 2 tops thin coats of 10-12 inch fusion, you will keep all the details and get a peel/chip resistant primer, that comes in an array of colors.

Knock it off boys, don't get started..or you're going to your rooms with no dinner tonight..

Frenzy_Rumble..With the primer paints though..Ok, when I did my Classics Sunstorm, and found out after painted, that the color wasn't what I'd wanted..So people just said to go ahead and put on another coating with the proper color, and use the original as a primer..And I did just that..And while the paint held fine..It seemed to lose the sharpness of the molding..Kind of dulled it some. How can you apply primer--even a thin layer, and then another without losing out the details? I've never primered any of my pieces, just went with direct finished paint.

You dont even need primer most of the time. Ive found that in some cases it doesn't help at all. More often than not i find primer to be an unessesary step which just eats up more detail. If your paint is good and you apply it the right way it will have all the strength it needs without primer.

And Frenzy, stop acting like what you know is the be all end all of things. Saying stuff like "krylon is the best primer. Period" is just arrogant. For one, some people simply cant buy the Krylon brands, and secondly you dont know if it is the best or not. The fact is, whatever works for people is what is best for them and not just what you like to use. Not everyone is going to have the same success with the same materials, it varies on the user thats just a fact. Thats why some of us use acrylics, others use enamels, and some of us use totally different methods altogether.

(also, automotive primer says it is "sand able" because once you prime something you are supposed to rub it down after with some wet and dry sand paper to smooth it off before the paint goes on. This ensures a very smooth and shiny paint job (its no sign that the primer is going to eat away the detail. That all depends on how well you mix the primer, its your (as in the person using the primer, not you particularly) fault if it comes out too thick. This applies to cars, or anything else you want to use the primer on.) Also, i didn't ruin my project. The wrong materials for the job will always cause problems, its down to personal preference as i stated above, but the wrong tools for the job will still mess it up. Thats why the acrylics chipped off of my red ironhide, but after i stripped those off and used car paint instead it didn't chip at all (no primer used either). Not the fault of the paints? Thats a crock.)

Kitbash is done by a japanese person i think, judging by the clear windows and the gundam hands.

I've personally used over 10 different types of primer, and have success with several types. Whether you can get it from the store or not, myself and many others will agree, Fusion is the best. $3.00 per can, variety of finishes....It's made for plastic and does not require sanding (common misconception by amatuers) The discussion is about primer. Not "why you wouldn't use primer" It even comes in about 20+ colors.

no. it's the artist, in this case: you. I don't wanna come off like a prick, but in reality, Jin pumps out some customs that are amazing, as does Chih, and David, and many many others who sware by acrylics. I'm not even a fan of acrylics, but I'm bright enough to realize and accept.. the paints aren't what's responsible for the bad result.

Sonray, stop being so Powerglideing ignorant. I thought you've learned your lesson, but apparently not. Look at your blogger. You have issues dude. Don't turn this thread, or board, or your life into a pointless personal issue andcompetition, you're only going to make yourself feel worse.

whoa whoa WHOA!...

guys, damn.... chill....

I just wanted to know if any of you knew who the hell did this custom; I didn't intend for it to turn into War of Geeks (I'm a geek too, so that's no insult) over a chunk of plastic...

Damn...

I can't watercolor; some people can't paint with acrylics, it's a pretty crappy game, but hey...

"Be excellent to each other; and... party on dudes!"

or something to that nature...

welcome to TFans and let me introduce you to Sonray. he's the same on every frikkin board until mods ban him (we're up to 4 bans so far)

i just want you (closet rat) to get the *right* information. I'm sick of people being misguided into using sandpaper to leave a clean finish, or paint thinner to remove bad paint.

I put Wreckage's hands on my CL-BB and they look pretty good.

Personaly i would say your best bet would be to get a few cheap small figures (i.e. legends) & try a few different methods to see wich suits you best.

Actually, im ahead of you by one, which makes it two altogether. Ooooohhh biiig deal! (4?!, like wtf? :roll )

Im not going to continue this with you here as its pointless, but you've been reported for that stab above.

Back onto topic. It appears the artist of this piece is hard to find. But ultimately, if you have experience with acrylics like you say you do Mr. Rat then i think that would be your best bet.

Stick to what you know works for you and you will be fine.

If for some reason the acrylics dont work out for you then no worries! They can be removed easily with some fine grain sand paper with water (contrary to what certain people might say, i know for a fact it works cos ive use the damn stuff myself on nearly every project i make so obviously someone is wrong). Since acrylics are water soluble this will strip all the nasty stuff off with ease as long as you add a bit of elbow grease too. ;)

Either that or acrylic paint thinners will work fine (also contrary to what some people will tell you), or theres always that wonderful stuff called "rubbing alcohol".

If you make a mistake or something doesn't work for you its not the end of the world, its only paint on a toy after all so no need to worry! :D

I would try the acrylic method first as enamels are much harder to remove if they don't work out for you. Either that or you can commission me. :P (i already have a classic movie bb spare)
