WGA Strike Nearing An End?

Recommended Posts

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) may be nearing the end of their strike with major Hollywood studios. Our sister site Entertainment News International is reporting that union officials and studio representatives have been passing draft contracts between both sides. The WGA is still locked in arguments with most major studios despite reaching agreements with Lionsgate Films, Marvel Studios, United Artists, and The Weinstein Company. WGA has been on strike since November 5, 2007.

Humorous (to me, at least) responses:

1) Is THAT still going on?

2) And I was hoping it would at least last long enough to keep the turds that wrote the first TF movie from writing the second one.

Uh...you do realize as long as it's going no one can write the second one, right?

Hopefully we are near an end.

Hmmm... and I thought somehow we were all past people complaining about the incredibly sucessful movie.

w00t! I get my BSG final fourth season!

Great news. Glad to hear a compromise is apparently near.

Yeah really, BSG is the only reason I gave two hoots about the writer's strike. I stopped watching TV long before it ever happened, and what I've seen of late night TV has been much funnier sans writers. Oh well, I guess they can get back to churning out bile like "According to Jim" and the 2008 season of Mad TV.

And No Country for Old Men and Flight of the Conchords and Michael Clayton and The Office and There Will Be Blood...

...seriously, why is it that someone in every thread about the strike has to list their personal worst of the worst, as if those are the only things the striking writers produce?

Besides, I don't like "According to Jim", either, but seven seasons. They're doing something right.

Yeah, it's called pandering to the lowest common denominator, and it typically works. It's the reason Leno's rating are consistently better than Letterman's. I don't have anything against the writers, I just wanted to be the guy who points out that most of them are hacks, and their writing is gradually dumbing down generations of American viewers. How long until Idiocracy's "Ass: the Movie" becomes a reality?

BSG-Easily the best show on television. Glad to know the fourth (final) season will in all likelihood be completed.

Stuff like According to Jim, eh, not my cup of tea. It's like My Name is Earl, IMO. I just don't get it, but apparently someone does. Which is ok. I love Seinfeld, but I also know people who detest it. So to each his own.

I want to see The Office. I've heard great things, and from what I've seen it's very good. I just never get around to watching it.

All in all, I tend to stay clear of criticizing the television preferences of others. I mean I liked Titus, Greg the Bunny, and the live action The Tick show, so what do I know?

Edit-Bring back the X-Files damnit!

I just wanted to be the guy who points out that most of them are hacks, and their writing is gradually dumbing down generations of American viewers.

Even if you argue the state of being a "hack" as subjective, you couldn't possibly convince me you've had enough experience with the work of every writer in Hollywood to label most of them as such. Knee-jerk emotional generalizations of a group of people is easier than a fat joke on "According to Jim", and less fun, at that.

Why the hate?
