Battle Scarred Prime

Recommended Posts

Prime looks ok but i dont feel like it looks battle damaged, it really just looks like silver paint has been spilled onto him. If you took the dremel or a knife to him and made it look like the metal work has been scarred and damaged it would look more convincing..like these:

You're having a lot of fun with this guy eh? I like that you went with actually damaging him as well, not just paint.

One thing I'd think would be cool was if there was a large section where like he's been charred being on fire or something, or like an explosion went off near him. The painted damage areas all look to be of the same level of damage, where it could in fact be done so that there are major damaged areas and parts that had minimal damage inflicted. Just an idea.

Thats a pretty good attempt. I take it you are still learning the ropes?

One place that I have looked at in the past for inspiration, when I used to paint models, was Star Wars. Many of the Republic's X-Wings, etc all had battle damage. In fact the original toys in the 70's had battle damage paint jobs/stickers.

I think in the future, "less is more" here. You want to create the idea that his paint job is damaged, bot that his battle damage has paint, sotospeak. He does, however, look like he has that "Cosmic Rust" affliction from the G1 cartoon.

Here are a few things you can also do:

- add a wash of orange, brown and perhaps a very little black ink (all in separate washes) over the metallic battle damage parts. A "wash" by the way, is a watered-down application of ink. Its a very easy way to tone down excessive highlights (ie: too much white) if you highlight/drybrush figs or you can use it to make metallic paint applications have different characteristics.

In this case, using at least orange, chestnut brown or even a final dark brown/black wash carefully over the metallic paint parts will create a feeling of rust. THEN, you re-drybrush a dark metallic paint, like Citadel's "Gun-Bolt metal" or equiv back over the wash.

Hope this helps and well done for your first attempt!

Well thanks, and yes Primal-Convoy I'm still learning the ropes. I want to do it slowly, because customizing in general is not easy. :07redface

no it ain't! and let me just say - i'm really likin' what you've done with this.

as for people making fun of it - some people just can't help but say ignorant things at times. Half the time they don't mean it, but also don't take the time to think that the things they say might be hurtful.

Keep at it!!
