I just wish they would come out with more in depth info on the origins of the TF like Optimus Prime, Megatron ect. I really would love to get a history of Optimus Prime because he is my all time favorite all.

have you read War Within? They sorta have Prime's origins, but that only scrapes the surface. DW has more in store for us though

*ahem*

Ok, I apologise. I was sure that G2 wasn't a direct continuation of G1. I was sure that I'd read words to that effect in the first issue.

However, I don't have the issue to hand (only scans of it, with no letters page) and everything I've found online says that, in fact, G2 was a direct follow-on.

I think where I got consfused was the back cover of G2 Issue # 1 (see attached image below)

I also found this line from here: http://tfdatabase.com/comic/guide/g2_us/special.html

QUOTE

This is set after "End of the Road", as hinted at by the cast, but before any of the other Generation 2 stuff.

So, sorry for sounding so pig-headed!

no worries man. :thumb I'm the resident self-proclaimed-comic-book expert, so if I'm wrong about something, I'd rather be proven wrong than continue with misinformation. I knew G2 was the same cuz it picked up where G1 left off. Megatron emerges from the ruins of the Ark, which crashed in G1 #78. Plus Bludgeon was still leading the Decepticons, and throughout the saga Optimus would flashback to events that took place in the G1 comic. I really liked the G2 comic, I don't know why a bunch of people don't.

Although it hasn't been around too long, Transformers is kind of like a legend, that has been retold many times, each with a different variation. G1 is the core of the legend, and it has been told three times, in different ways. There are elements common to all of them, but differences too. Even when the spin offs occur, that reformat the series from the ground up having nothing to do with G1, (The Armada-Energon continuity,) Elements of G1 resurfaced.

That being said, I am most familiar with the G1 toons and there story, and it is satisfactory to me for the most part. (I don't accept it's explanation for Unicron, there has to be more too it.)

The G1 toons story is interesting because it (mostly) lacks the religious elements that were introduced in the comics. In the film, Optimus Prime spoke of the day when all are one, and of joining the Matrix, briefly breaking into religious like notions, but the show was not too willing to explore it.

This may be redundant because Rhino has the DVDs out now, but here's a brief history of Cybertron according to the show.

In the begginning, sometime more than 11 million years ago. The Quintessons, a bio-mechanical life form, some of them possessing five heads, land on a planet they come to call Cybertron. There, they establish a massive factory-city complex that spans the entire planet, (Cybertron is slightly smaller than earth's moon in this continuity.) At that factory, they begin building robots in two different variations: Consumer goods models (fore-bearers of the Autobots,) and Military Hard ware (fore bearers of the Decepticons: note, A's and D's were always separate races in this continuity.) The Quintessons would sell the robots and use them for their service and entertainment. The Quintessons were cruel to their creations, not caring much if they were injured or destroyed and making them battle each other for amusement. The Quintessons became more and more involved in advancing there programming so they could do more complicated tasks. The Quintessons created Vector Sigma to program them. Soon, The proggramming became so advanced, the robots became self-aware.

11 million years ago, The robots united against their cruel masters the Quintessons to be free from they're tyranny. The Quintessons protected themselves with Massive guardian robots to fight of the forces of the rebels, who were led by A3 (who later became alpha Trion.) Eventually, even the Guardians turned on the Quintessons, and they were forced to flee. The robots now enjoyed there freedom for a time.

11-9 million years ago, Cybertron went through turmoil. The consumer goods robots were now calling themselves autobots, and the Military hard ware were calling themselves Decepticons. They found that left to their own devices, Autobots and Decepticons had a hard time getting along. Decepticons were constantly in need of battle, of conquest, but now they had no enemy to fight. The Autobots were peace loving and became scientists and Artisans, Disdaining Decepticon violence. Soon, The Decepticons rebelled, and started the first Cybertronian war.(Note, the series puts the blame squarely on the Decepticons for the wars.) The Autobots and Decepticons would have a series of wars during this period, at least three. Both sides would claim victory, but it was short lived. The Autobots first devolped the ability to transform during this era, which was a huge tactical advantage. However, the Decepticons eventually copied the technology. The Autobot Matrix of Leadership first appears at this time, but it's origins are unknown.

By 9 million years ago, the Transformers developed equilibrium in there society, and started the Golden age of Cyberton. There was plenty of Energon to go around, and everyone contributed to society. During this Time, The ability to fly is devoloped. One of the first with this power was a Decepticon named Megatron. He desired conquest on a Universal Scale, and began recruiting to Decepticons to his rebellion, and seizing massize quantities of the planet's energon to fuel his war. In one raid, he a attacked a power Station on a river and damaged a young robot named Orion Pax. Pax was saved by mysterious Autobots, (Actually the Aeriolbots visiting from the future,) and Taken to Alpha Trion, where he was repaired and rebuilt as Optimus Prime, the new Autobot Champion. He became Megatron's greatest foe.

9-4 million years ago, not much is know except by inference. Megatron started the longest bloodiest war in Cyberton history, stretching out over 9 million years. Optimus Prime at some point assumes leadership of all Autobots, and acquires the Matrix of Leadership under unknown circumstances.(There was no concept of Sentinal Prime, Optimus's predacessor, in this continuity.) Much of what was beautiful and good on Cybertron is lost, and the whole planet becomes a mechanical waste land.

By 4 million years ago, The Decepticons, under command of Megatron, have assumed control of most of the planet, and nearly all of it's energy resources, which are begginning to be drained due to the war. The Autobots have their stronghold at the city of Iacon, where they spend most of their time searching for what scant remains of Energon there is not under Decepticon Control. Optimus Prime begins a bold initiative of Taking his elite warriors on a search expedition into the galaxy to find new sources of Energon. Knowing this, Megatron sets out in his own ship to thwart the Autobots and seize any new energy for himself. The Decepticons board the Autobot ship and engage in battle with there foes. During the fight, the Autobot ship drifts into earth's gravity well and is drawn down, crashing violently into the side of a volcano. All aboard are severly damaged and put into a state of emergency stasis, awaiting repairs. They are not disturbed for four million years.*

4 million years ago to present, not much is known about cybertron history. Shockwave controls the planet, awaiting Megatron's return, and other autobots still remain, including (but not limited to,) Alpha Trion and the Female Autobots. During those ensuing battles, the planet became almost completely drained of energy, to the point of crisis.

Present day, 1984 (85?) The volcano that the autobot ship rests in erupts, causing the ship's onboard computer, Teletran-1, to reactivate and send out a skyspy satelite to survey the earth. Not able to recognize faction distinctions any more, it sets about repairing and reactivating the Transformers, giving them earth vehicles as alt-modes. First repaired is Skywarp, who repairs all of the other decepticons. They leave the ship, but before going, Starscream childishly fires at the Autobot ship, causing a small rock slide which jolts Optimus Prime into the repair beam, where he is reactivated, and he reactivates his troops. Soon the Autobots and decepticons will spend years on earth battling eachother over earth's energy supply, Megatron trying to seize it all and leaving the earth a dead husk and Optimus fighting to stop him, and reach a peaceful aggreement with the humans.

---I decided only to take the timeline up to where the show starts. If you didn't know how it happened in the show, I hope this helps.

*Those familer with Beast Wars know that the time when they Autobots and Decepticons lay in stasis may not have been so quiet after all, but since that was a different show, I excluded the reference.

INFIDEL!!! :tfevil

War Within is before the g-1 why?because the jet's starscream, skywarp, and thundercracker are like triangular shaped and in the first season of transformer's while on cybertron they are also .so,in the g-1 cartoon the beginning the jet's are exactly how they are in the war within comic so,it was war within until the decepticon's and autobot's left cybertron and crashed and they both got remade.watch the 1st three episode's.

The first three episodes are where DW's Don Figueroa got some of the vehicle designs, Bumblebee and Wheeljack are examples of that. But War Within is by no means the same continuity as the G1 cartoon. It is DW's own continuity, written by Simon Furman himself. In fact, some elements of War Within come directly from some of his work in Marvel UK TF comics.

Some things don't make sense though, like Grimlock.  He was built on Earth, so how could he be on Cybertron during War Within, where are the other Dinobots?  It's all very minor stuff though, and could easily be the exact same thing as the Constructicon origin issue...  Yes WW is AWSOME.  I would love to see a TV series.  I doubt that will happen though...

Even in the Marvel Continuity the Dinobots were not created on Earth. They were dispatched during the Jurassic Period by Teletran 1 to Combat Shockwave.

Problems with the show:

1. If they made the Dinobots on Earth, why did they need Vector Sigma to create the Arialbots? Why did they not need VS to create the Dinobots?

Do you remember how dim-witted the Dinobots were at first on TV? How animal-like and savage they were? They practically destroyed the entire Ark! I think their lack of sentience is why VS was not required. Just a quick thought. Even after the Dinobots creation, Wheeljack had to create those wierd head pieces to give them their current intelligence, which is nothing to brag about...

Ok I posted this thought on page one, but I dont think anyone here has seen it, so I dug deep. Here is probably one of the best histories out there for our Mythos,

http://members.cox.net/airwolf2k5/nws.html#history

Primus? A rogue Quintesson scientist? I know most marvel comic book fans would dislike that, but being loyal to G1 TV and Beast Wars, I like the idea. I think over the millions upon millions of years the TF's existed, they've made Primus a legend. As a legend the TF's viewed him as a god, their creator.

Just another thought...

I'm probably trying too hard to rationalize all this aren't I?
