A real head for movie Dreadwing

Recommended Posts

EDIT- finished pics further down!

I'm taking a break from my Tidal Wave knee project to fix Dreadwing's biggest flaw, his bizzare lens/cone head.

Used the head from a Constructicon crane (can't rem his name). Did some carving to make it fit in alt mode, and a simple little slice to make the nosecone fold all the way over. Not done yet, tho, I'm trying to avoid making it a parts-former. It'll need a paintjob, too.

Can't finish it tonight bec. I just sliced my finger open pretty badly, hope I don't need stitches. Comments please!

Looing good!

Just a suggestion, I thought it would be sweet idea when kitbashing Dread, to make his arms his legs, and get rid of the "fuel pod", the only real "scratch" part would be the arms maybe some missles under this wings. I dont know just an idea.

Looks great, HH! The only other thing that I think would improve the figure is replace the tail sections with Classics Starscream's figure's back tail wings...so they can fold up.

New head looks great!

Ha -- I got a spare classics starscream head to replace the monocle. Haven't started yet. Will have to compare notes.

I noticed that your fig doesn't have wings in BOT mode. Are they detachable now?

Also, what does the head/nosecone section look like in ALT mode?

Cool, good luck w/ yours! I'm hoping to find a better head for him down the road, I painted this one silver w/ a gold face for now. Better than baby blue and red, ugh.

DW is still incomplete in these pics, didn't put his swings and whatnot all back on. He will be complete as before, and the nosecone will be unchanged in alt mode. Thx guys!

Interesting. :thumb

OK, no stiches and the finger's healing nicely, so I went ahead and finished this little son of a Starscream tonight. It turned out more hackish that I would have liked, but it's done. (EDIT- cut my thumb tonight on this damn thing, I'm glad it's done!)

Here's an X-ray view before re-assembly, showing how the head nests in the cavity carved into the area where the lens head used to be:

The final robot mode look:

The big cutout in the chest is the unfortunate result of a failed idea, I'd like to fill it in w/ something at some point. Please try to ignore it. :redface

More pics:

Jet mode is unaffected:

I need to touch up the head, since I had to trim it a little after painting- the geometry of the swinging nosecone left less space than I had calculated. The nosecone is now a backpack, but it's a trim one. Also, I would have liked a more movie-styled head, but I had this one handy and I think it looks OK.

Comments please!

Could always use a Target Exclusive, or Real Gear figure head if y'come back around to it.

Just curious, what was the cut-out idea for? Maybe some folks around here can help y'hammer it out. :thumb
