Beast Machines: A strange discovery

Recommended Posts

I had no problem with the spirituality, but the introduction of the organic origins of Cybertron, and the final fate of Cybertron, still irks me to this day.

Beast Machines was the only show that treated planet Cybertron as, well, a planet.

Essentially one much more like Trantor/Coruscant than what had come before.

It's harder to rationalize G1 and BW/BM even existing in the same universe than it is to rationalize Cybertron having an organic core. JMO

Geewun had transorganics. It's a bit of a stretch, but the concept was sorta there to begin with. And I don't think it's strange a planet changes radically. Old Cybertron (Geewun) was millions of years ago, earth was radically different millions of years ago.

Oh, I agree. I'm just saying that the shows themselves are so jarringly different that it's harder to imagine them being part of the same story than it is to rationalize the details of that story.

:tflaugh I guess

FYI a bit that was going to be included in the finale but didn't make it: the Maximals offer to bring Obsidian and Strika back to the planet, but they refuse, saying that their actions made them unworthy of returning to Cybertron.

The mental image of them sort of floating around the planet for all eternity is kind of lollish though.

Social outcasts were the keywords? LOL

Anyway I love the way how he (or Wreckloose) recruits the Maximals/Predacons to do his bidding. He's like Rodimus Prime to Optimus Prime, only that, he replaces Megatron, and, Obsidian's better than Hot Rod. He's that awesome. :P

That is a great comic. It's very well predicted.

I really miss a lot of the old predacons from beast wars.. well, given most of them were killed off.. but they had a fantastic set of preds in beastwars.. and on Megatron's arm, it didn't seem like he had much to work with other than his drones in beast machines.. and the inconsistancy with the way he was in beast wars *which was very well written* seemed kind of disappointing.

But on the whole, they did a great job with the follow up on the maximals. Each of them were very different from how they were in Beast Wars.. and in a lot of ways, it was kind of interesting seeing them all in a new light.. a darker silverbolt, an evil rhinox, a harsher cheetor.. etc etc..

The only real thing that bugged me was Noble.. I don't see how he could exsist really. Organic Purging should more or less result in a pile of flesh.. not this wolf dude who morphs into a dragon.

Yeah, I totally didn't get the whole Noble thing either. Given how easy it was for Megatron to yank his spark out of that body and straight into the mainframe, why didn't he just do that from his TM2 body? Why yank it from the TM2, dump it in Noble, then go through all that subterfuge w/ the Maximals? My only guess is that Noble was actually Megatron's technorganic form restored by the Oracle after both he and Primal triggered their doomsday weapons at the end of season 1, but that's not really made clear. What *is* made clear is that Megatron has no trouble tossing his spark around from body to body in season 2, so I still gotta ask why he didn't just do that in the first place instead of trying to purge the organic elements from his TM2 body.

Megatron didn't do a spark transfer earlier because he was unwilling to expose his spark & make himself vulnerable to attack. His diagnostic drone had suggested a spark transfer in one of the first episodes, but Megatron shot down the idea right away. Megatron's only option, in his mind, was to purge the organics from his existing body.

Later, when his body was inadvertently split in two by the combined energies of the Key to Vector Sigma and the Plasma Energy chamber, his spark ended up stuck in the wrong half, as a fully organic creature. The point of his subterfuge with the Maximals was that he couldn't have gotten inside his fortress on his own -- he needed them to get him inside. When he found that he was unable to access his control suit in his organic body, he extracted his own spark, which flew up into the Megahead. He did leave himself open to attack by doing so, but it was *the only option* Megatron had -- Cybertron was completely offline and he was on his own. Plus I'm sure he was banking on the Maximals being too confused to do anything in time.

Megatron's spark (which was never bonded to the Megahead) was depolarized by Nightscream's sonic scream, which prevented it from bonding to a new body. (So he was able to move from one to the other.) Rattrap repolarized it, and the next body Megatron chose (a diagnostic drone) became bonded to his spark, and he couldn't get out.

:pfx

I like Beast Machines.
