About Starscream..

Speculation? Like I said, you see Starscream hiding within the Raptor Squadron. Next shot, Megs being blown to pieces. Yes, I'm filling in the blanks, and I am interpreting the situation as I see things, but I can say that I do see more than enough warrant for the idea.

But, yeah, like I said, it's just how I interpret things.

Yeah, it's in character with Starscream, and it's also cool for it's subtlety and all that "Robots In Disguise" stuff

The biggest reason why I don't think it was intentional. :07laugh

I can't argue with that. Something only the fans would get - which was kind of NOT the point with this movie.

You've really got to wonder about Starscream's treachery here. It's known that he would rather that Megatron never be found, and when Frenzy reports it, he obviously must do what is expected of him. You can see a cringe on his face when he says his line about failing to capture the Allspark.

Of course, he stays on Earth as a precaution, just in case Megatron should be found. But when Megatron is killed? That's when Starscream leaves.

His character is portrayed less as a coward (seen by his smooth fight with both Ironhide and Ratchet, as well as taking care of the F-22 Raptors) and more of an eager-to-fight, destructive bastard. He watches as Megatron confronts Sam and destroys the Blackhawk that, if Sam had entered, would've been an easier target, for the Allspark wouldn't be destroyed in the explosion.

There's more to his character than meets the eye.

Or we fans could be reading into something that was never intended to be there. Don't get me wrong, I love love love the idea of Starscream taking a moment to secure his leadership, but if it was intended to be that way, I think there would have been some part in the movie making that clear to the non-fan audience - i.e. "now you die, Megatron!" or something like that.

Yeah, I think you have to look at this movie as a setup for the sequel, in regard to some of the classic G1 character interactions. It's established in this movie that Starscream is Megatron's lieutenant, that he's a bit sycophantic, and that Megatron doesn't particularly like him. And then at the end of the movie, Starscream escapes and Megatron (seemingly) gets killed. All of this goes a long way towards setting up a believable character interaction between the two of them. To me, it's not enough to just say "Starscream wants to be leader"; you have to explain why, in a way that makes sense to the audience. The movie's ending gives Starscream a reason to believe that he is superior to Megatron (Starscream survived, Megatron got PWNED by a flesh creature), and obviously nobody likes to be told "once again, you fail me" either. Especially when the person telling you that you failed spent the last 300 years frozen in ice because he f*cked up. I like the fact that Starscream isn't just set up as some delusional assmunch in this movie; he has a legitimate point to (eventually) make about who should be calling the shots.

Sigh. Missed that too.

Damn movie moving too damn fast.

Anyway. is it just me or does Starscream restore his cybertronian alt mode as he leaves for space. Can't remember but it looked as if he had.

But he isn't loyal to Megatron. Fleeing from Earths Atmosphere instead of staying and fighting like the rest of them... doesn't put off a loyal vibe. And yes, TF2. WILL. COME.

Anyway. is it just me or does Starscream restore his cybertronian alt mode as he leaves for space. Can't remember but it looked as if he had.

No. He stayed in his F-22 mode. Don't forget, that this mode is somewhat of a natural move for him since I'm almost certain that his Cybertroninan mode is what his Protoform mode is, which is capable of space flight, which would lead me to believe that he can do this as an F-22 (also taking into consideration that the fact that he was as high up in the atmosphere as he was, no real F-22 could go that high).

Now,as for the sequel, I too am eager to see how his relationship with Megatron will be played out.

But I'm also thankful that he isn't a whiny Starscream of a bot that he was in the toon.

Regardless of what transpired, I do like that despite all his firepower and armor, Starscream's true "screamerness" shines through with the fact that EVERY attack he did in the movie was a hit and run. Unlike Brawl or Blackout, Starscream refused to stay in one spot for too long.
