THE OFFICIAL TRANSFORMERS MOVIE DISCUSSION THREAD

He got the download information when Blackout could not.

When was blackout even after the information? wasn't it frenzy twice?

First scene - when the capatin of the Airforce base has to cut the cable line to the servers with an axe.

And Goki- i thought that Dinobot (BW) and Jetfire were both Austrailian.

Dinobot yes, Jetfire was just some guy pretending to be Austrailian. Funny enough was that Dinobots VA was originaly going to be Jetfire but was denied cause "he didnt sound Aussie enough".

I loved it.

It was just so Powerglideing awesome.

I still feel bad about Jazz, though... Always been one of my favorites. Even since G1. :(

Here's to hoping he comes back in the second one. XD

As Final Battle Jazz! Pahaha.

My wife (whom I dragged, pregnant and irratible to a sneak-preview) just argued very well that Frenzy was the most capable of all the decepticons.

He got the download information when Blackout could not.

He got the closest to getting the glasses.

He found Megatron, and freed him and found the Allspark and alerted the other decepticons.

riWithout him they would have been lost.

I did understand why they had to kill someone. I just was kind of bummed that it was Jazz even though I hated his voice. Kill a human.

Last night I showed my wife the G1 movie (special widescreen edition) and when she saw Blaster transform into a tape deck, she remaked about how stupid an alt mode it was considering that the other Transformers transformed into cars, planes etc. - and wondered what possible use a cassette player could have in battle - but then I reminded her about the usefulness of having a small alt mode in terms of stealth, just as we saw Frenzy in the movie - and then she agreed.

Of course, the difference is that Frenzy is still small in robot mode, thus able to continue his stealthy ninja activities (I love how his weapon of choice is ninja stars too btw - "Motherfu--!") whereas Blaster transforms into a giant robot. Still, I'll probably show her MTMTE some time and she can see the moment where Soundwave uses his alt mode to sneak into Autobot H.Q. (although it's cool how he freaks out Spike when he transforms to that giant robot mode - surprise!!)

I'm still wondering why the Decepticons didn't just bid on the glasses, especially as they probably could have got Frenzy to hack the auction in their favour!

Yeah true, but from a sadist POV, hunting Sam down for the glasses is more fun!

Also... they don't exactly have a postal address... although they could claim to do a COD pick up. :P Surprise!!

It's an awesome movie, but there are still some sore points for me. I especially don't like the fact that the humans save the autobots hide effectively. I guess it was teamwork really, but I would have preffered Prime to do the damage.

The movie needed to be more human-centric to engage the wider general audience (which the G1 movie utterly failed to do). And as you noted, it was a combined effort, so it wasn't humans alone. This is the first time I've seen a human-Autobot alliance outside of TF vs G.I. Joe.

I think Weaving worked fine, but I still really wish Frank Welker had done it.

I disagree. Welker's voice is far too cartoony for a live action movie - I think Bay mentioned this too, if so, I totally agree with him. Weaving's Megatron voice gives me fan wood something chronic.

I wonder where the battle damage that they have in robot mode goes when they turn into vehicles. Robot mode = lots of panel scratches, vehicle mode = shiny and new.

Really? I dunno... I can't remember how damaged Prime got after fighting Bonecrusher - after all, their force shields would absorb most superficial damage... I'll have to look at Prime's robot mode after fighting Bonecrusher and compare it with his truck mode when he rolls into the city when I watch the movie for a third time tomorrow. ;)

If you're talking about the end scene, it's safe to assume that that scene occured quite some time after the main battle, so they would have had time for Ratchet to repair them. Also, the comic adaptation does mention that the Transformers can regenerate themselves unless the damage is sustained by a weapon exceeding 3000°C (the atomic blast over Hiroshima ranged from 538-3982°C).

I just don't think the Autobots really cover themselves in glory, which bothered me a bit.

Umm... should they? They seem happy just to be the hidden sentinels for humanity - which is pretty much how it was in G1 (okay, they had more limelight in the cartoon, but you know how I feel about the G1 toon)

Overall though, killer movie. Seen it twice, want to go again. Also bought Leader Prime and Barricade as a result of my enthusiasm. The effects are mind blowing.

I reckon! Better than the special effects in Spiderman 3 IMO despite having HALF the budget of Spidey 3! It also had half the budget of Pirates 3, but I haven't seen Pirates 3 so I can't make a comparison.

Yeah, I liked that too, there was a real feel of war, of threat, I'm sorry, but some episodes of G1 seems more like they're plaing a game. It did remind (your post really, not the movie) of that arc in the G1 comics where Ratchet was forced into a warrior role.

Exactly, which is why G1 comics >>> G1 cartoons.

It's also why Flint Dille wrote Transformers The Movie to have so many deaths - he wanted it to be more realistic of what war was - and yeah, because Hasbro wanted to get rid of the toys that weren't on sale ;p In the movie, most of the 1984 Transformers were just doomed. In the comics the deaths were far more random, like war.

And Goki- i thought that Dinobot (BW) and Jetfire were both Austrailian.

Dinobot? Australian?!? You high??

Until Weaving and Taylor have been the only Australians to act in Transformers. Outback had a fake Australian accent clearly played by an American actor (although he does a fair job in mimicking our accent - better than Peter Cullen's attempt which was just... weird). By Jetfire I presume you mean Cybertron Jetfire. I haven't seen Cybertron (I watch Galaxy Force) but I've heard from others that he has a very fake Australian accent that sounds like it's coming from an American actor.

Other than movie Megatron the only other Transformer with an accent that is similar to an Australian accent is Obsidian - but it's NOT an Australian accent - it's a Cockney accent, which is where the Australian accent evolved from (hence the similarities). I initially thought Obsidian sounded Australian, but soon realised that it was Cockney.

Dinobot yes

Gah?!? (O_o) I dunno what you fellas are smoking, but Dinobot's accent is NOWHERE near Australian... Rachel Taylor has a very typical Australian accent.

Rachel Taylor (w/ Jon Voight)

Scott McNeil (Dinobot, Rattrap - also voiced Waspinator and Silverbolt)

Scott McNeil was born in Australia - but he lives in Canada and his accent sounds more Canadian to me. Certainly not Australian. He must've left Brisbane when he was still very young.

Just had to register and post my first- well - post! I love this site for it's toy reviews.

Been a Transformer fan as a kid and for my buddies and I, Optimus Prime was something like Jesus Christ. I remember we'd be doing stuff like "What would Optimus Prime do?". Made me laugh when I saw Sam say the WWJD line in the movie :tflaugh

As for the movie, it's amazing how non-fans totally love it. Even my mom and girlfriend loved it! And people who I know had to be dragged to watch the movie came out raving like mad.

I also liked the way they did Jazz' death. Sudden and not dramatized. Some may not agree with me on this but I believe that in the whole "war" theme of the movie, not all deaths are going to be glorious or drawn out. Most will be short and violent, just like Jazz'. When he died, I was in shock. My mind just said "No.. did that just.. f*ck.. oh f*ck.. Megatron is going to pay". :tfmad

The most memorable scenes for me where:

- When Barricade interrogates Sam. Made me laugh uncontrollably. Imagine being interrogated with your own EBay Account Name.

- When Sam meets all the Autobots and they transform. This made me tear up in awe - I was always wondering what I'd feel like to meet the Autobots and the movie gave me that again.

- During the highway chase and Optimus Prime suddenly brakes and transforms to meet Bonecrusher. That scene, where he's transforming as he's spinning AND the camera was panning WAS TOTALLY robogasmic.

- When Optimus Prime barrels down the alley to reinforce the Autobots at the city. Just seeing him arrive just made me cheer.

The movie was cheesy and over-the-top at times, but for me that was just fine, I wasn't expecting "A Beautiful Mind" but simple, plain, unadulterated, fun. Made me be a kid again :)

Just a tip: For your first screening, watch it with an open mind, don't look for flaws, just appreciate the movie and let your inner kid out. You can do the analysis after watching it the first time. :tfgrin

(Oh, and I bought the movie Ironhide toy afterwards :tftongue )

Scott McNeil was born in Australia - but he lives in Canada and his accent sounds more Canadian to me. Certainly not Australian. He must've left Brisbane when he was still very young.

Thats what I was referring too, that the voice actor himself was austrailian. :tftongue

I didn't notice any Australian on Megatron in the movie.

Man, they really need to make a decent (non-FAB) toy of Frenzy. Honestly, NINJA+WASPINATOR=GOLD

I didn't notice any Australian on Megatron in the movie.

It's clearly Hugo Weaving's voice and his accent is Australian (albeit influenced by English and Nigerian accents, but it's primarily Australian as Weaving was educated in Australia and spent much of his formative years in Australia and England).

I totally agree. There is nothing pretty or glorious about fighting. The movie portrayed war for what it truly is - HELL.

I would rather Rachet die. Jazz was such a cool as car. :tfsad

...Wow.

Amazing. It shut up the biggest annoying fan I've ever known and it proved a point: This movie is amazing!

As for Jazz's death. Yes. I am saddened but it was handled well.

meantime: "IRONHIDE PUT YOUR GUNS DOWN! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!??!"

and one more thing.

Frenzy.

Not enough is being made of Megan Fox and her hottness...
