Transfans Why are we so angry?

Recommended Posts

I only get angry when I read posts by people (I won't name names) who are condecending and rude. Everyone has different tastes and opinions and I can respect that, but the way some people go about it can just piss me off. Most of the time I won't waste my time to respond to people like that, but then there are those times when I feel personally offended and annoyed by these people who think they are so superior and talk down to everybody else.

As far as getting upset about the whole Tak/Hasbro thing, I try to avoid it. However, I can understand and even feel that way when either company just does something so ridiculously stupid or redundant, or just plain treats their primary target market (anyone who likes TF's) like we're stupid and that we will buy anything they throw at us.

BTW Madhammer, I love that picture. Especially with color.

Amen to that! I could not have have said it better myself! I will add however, I cannot stand it when some people condescend other people just b/c they like one series over another. Or they fail to realize and acknowledge if one series did not exist, none of the other series would’ve ever been created.

Also I do not understand why we are constantly subjected to craptacular repaints. Sorry guys, I know some of you love them, but specifically in the cases of Energon and Alternators, I cannot stand them. I so much rather have a new mold of a new fig than three or more bad repaints a fig I am beginning to sick to seeing warming up the shelves. Hasbro just gluts the market with these repaints and really the prices are not at times questionable, is it any wonder so many of us, hunt for bargains or trade?

Moreover back on topic, why are so many TF fans so bitter? IMO b/c we cannot share (it seems like it all about what I got, lookie here) and many of us do not have any patience to wait. Good things come to those to wait. But I can totally understand why many of do not want to wait, but at the same time, waiting does have other benefits. I.e. you do not spend all your money at once, especially considering there are probably more TFs out there currently and old ones too that you want, but probably do not need or cannot afford either.

I still fail to see how a character is defined by his color... Is Spider-Man not Spider-Man anymore once he wears his black costume?

Wait a sec. WHO IN BURNING INFERNO TEASED YOU WITH AN AUTOBOT LOGO?

Did Hasbro officially release the proto pics? Or were they taken off a prototype that was never actually meant ever to be seen for the public? :roll

Would you ever see Spider Man in a hot pink or yellow costume? I think not. As far as I can see, they've used the classic outfit for just about EVERY Spider Man series and the films. And black would work too, but I don't think Spidey would be himself anymore if he was all Neon and Violet colored. :tflaugh1

Anyway, I like the yellow on Tracks. I like the original blue color, but yellow works as well. As for Dead End, I actually like the nod to an Autobot on a Decepticon. The similarity to Suntreaker sparks my imagination and gives me ideas for an interesting backstory as to why Dead End looks that way.

Good point on the proto pics. However, they do leave room for speculation of something in the future.

I think some fans panic too much when changes are made to their favorites. In tracks' case, perhaps they should have done blue first, then shown him in yellow.

But all the same, people really need to calm cown. A tf in a new color isn't the end of the world. (I'm still waiting for MP Prime to be isued as Ultra Magnus w/ a trailer that breaks apart into clip-on armor!) If they don't like the color, buy a can of Krylon.

i hate double posts.

Wow, I think you and I are speaking about the same person here :tflaugh1 !

Check out the Snowcat thread over in Toy Discussion. You'll see what I mean. :tflaugh1

As far as repaints go, I see your point. I can take them or leave them for the most part. I only like them when they're cool looking (which only seems to happen about 5% of the time) and it's even better if the figure has a different name as well.

On your final point, I agree. However, in regards to what you mentioned about sharing, I think part of it is that we Transfans are pretty spread out across the world. We can't exactly go over to each others houses and hang out and talk. The closest we can come to sharing with each other is by posting pics of our collections on the threads and helping each other out when we are either looking to find new figures or attempting to do kitbashes/customs and checking out each others work.

I also agree that good things come to those who wait, but it starts to get annoying when you don't see stuff getting restocked at your local stores. It does keep me from going broke though. :tflaugh1

Which "craptacular Alternators repaints" are you referring to?!?

There were zero straight repaints in the Alternators line so far, and only two extensive remolds (Silverstreak and Dead End), both of whom look actually superior to the original version.

Besides - repaints/remolds make sense from a commercial viewpoint. Remolding an existing mold is cheaper than creating a new mold from scratch, and especially in the case of Alternators, I guess two toys based on the same license are cheaper than two toys based on different licenses...

And if you absolutely detest repaints/remolds, how did you ever stand G1? The six Seekers, Prime/Magnus, Trailbreaker/Hoist, Bluestreak/Prowl/Smokescreen, Sideswipe/Red alert, Inferno/Grapple, Rumble/Frenzy, Laserbeak/Buzzsaw, the 1986 Minibots...

As for the "shelfwarmer" argument - do you have any solid evidence other than "It appears that way"?

yeah, I agree -- at least about Alternators. I think the remolds have been very thoughtfully done so far. I love the subtle yet significant differences between Smokescreen and Silverstreak, and the whole Sideswipe / Sunstreaker thing is great as well. The Alternators line has obviously received a lot of care and attention to detail (though I'm sure someone will disagree).

and the G1 argument is a verrrry good point.

And of course, the obvious response to the whole "I hate repaints" argument is, "so don't buy them." It's not as if the repaints are preventing other new figures from coming out. Quite the opposite -- they FUND the new figures. :monkey

Would you ever see Spider Man in a hot pink or yellow costume?

No, but seeing Wolverine without yellow spandex wasn't all that bad. ;)

Actually, we really can't call them repaints, since they hardly have any paint on them except for details! They're more like remolds, in different colors!:D

But as for alternators, I've also noticed the subtle differences. And who says that two different transformers wouldn't have similar body styles, or even like transforms? It certainly makes repairs easier when you only need one set of repair parts for three different decepticons or autobots. (g1 Starscreamand his crew probably got group discount rates from McDonnel Douglas!!)

I'm pissed that Autobot Hound has been on hasbro's alternator site for months and now Silverstreak came out first and he isn't even on the site.

Also, why does Takara keep letting those not for sale prototypes leak out? We keep getting to see crappy prototypes just so we can go crazy jumping to conclusions. You know, that is definately Sunstreaker, or I think it's Beachcomber. No Trailbreaker!

I think I was better off when all I had was KB and Target to tell me what was coming out. The internet is evil
