Right click and saved (movie Prime's speech made me lawl)

The guy who started this topic, did the exact same topic on the other boards...

so if you hate CGI... then you pretty much hate every movie that's come out after 2001, right?

BTW those would work great... in a new cartoon, but the movie bots look great for the movie.

Uhm, Tron had CGI, and that's from 1982, 2 years before G1 was on TV...

Anyway, I really love the movie Transformers. Finally we get Transformers that work without any cheating at all.

:tflaugh I was just making a point.

...atleast make it look like something that resembles Transformers, like this:

Great if you're remaking the G1 cartoon.

If you're trying to make a point like "these look better than the movie" then you lose, good day sir.

First question: Why do you hate CGI

Unless to show or movie (BW/Toy Story) is being done entirely in CGI, it's main purpose is to enhance the story with effects that can't be done as well or at all using conventional techniques (like blood packs).

It's other purpose as far as characters is concerned, when they can't make a realistic costumes for the characters, they do them in CGI (Sebulba from Episode 1).

As for how the Transformers look, I know why you hate them, but let me tell you why I like them.

Instead of going the conventional route with making them anthropomorphic like in most series (which I'm sure they'll do with the upcoming TF:Animated), they decided to go a different route. They went in the way that will make them look how they should have all along. ALIEN. Cause the story is told from Sam's point of view, and to him, these things are alien and will look like nothing on Earth.

The other thing is, the conventional look of the G1 models look too cartoony (which many have already pointed out already, but I'm just reaffirming the point). Not realistic enough.

That is my opinion.

At the risk of siding with Mr. "I hate all movies made this century" :roll, I'd like to point out that the movie designs are not the only possible way to realistically render transforming robots. You could get a fair bit closer to conventional TFs by simply having the 'bots take the same technology that they use to make their alt modes seamless and use it on their bot modes to cover up their exposed internals, and by giving them improved hands and faces. And by 'improved' I don't mean "just like humans", I mean "decent and functional looking".

My main problem with the movie designs, and this is just my opinion, is that they don't look realistic on account of stupid nonfunctional design decisions. Tendrilly weak looking fingers on megs and others. Pointlessly fragmented "faces". Exposed internals. Now, maybe the movie will be so cool that I'll be able to overlook these things; I dunno; I haven't seen it yet. But so far, to me they're just not realistic; they're "ugly for the sake of being ugly".

If you want your robots alien, that's fine. it would be relatively easy to avoid humanlike faces; half the transformers have mouthplates and/or eyestrips anyway. I mean, heck, look at Shockwave and Wheeljack; no human features at all. (Especially if you go with toy Wheeljack: no eyestrip even. Toy bumblebee has a nicely alien head as well.) Even Prime and Soundwave's heads are just mouthplates, eyes, and a bunch of antennas.

You would have to alter Megatron and the seekers' faces to make them less human, yes, if you were into avoiding the anthropomorphic thing. You don't have to alter them into piles of shrapnel, though. That's just ugliness for the sake of ugliness.

(And really, if the movie were actually avoiding anthropomorphic, the robot modes would have three-six legs each; two legs is so unnatural for a robot, especially a top-heavy monstrosity like movie Starscream. But no, the movie isn't trying for nonanthromorphic or realistic. Don't kid yourself.)

I'd like to repeat that I don't hate CGI :roll, and I don't think the movie should be stop-motion of the toys, or simple comp-ins of the animated characters. But I do think that the new movie designs look terrible and unrealistic, and they needn't have.

Some of you are so convinced that the new designs for the transformers movie make sense because they look "alien." My question to you all is, What does an alien look like anyway? Obviously Hollywood, for the last 50 years or so, has told us what "aliens" look like; they have big teeth, and claws, and they often resemble reptile or insect looking creatures (which, by the way, are not alien, they are earthlings, like human beings). It annoys me everytime I read someone on these forums defending the new designs on the basis that they make more sense than the 1984 versions because these new designs look "alien" and not humanoid. But these new designs still have humanoid features: 2 legs, 2 arms, most have 2 eyes, and of course they have a head attached to a humanoid-like torso. It's rediculous to argue that these new designs are not humanoid and are in fact "alien." They are only alien to the degree that we have bought into the Hollywood idea that aliens will look like the most grotesque looking creatures right here on planet earth.
