Thrust looks very good, but also exactly as I had imagined he would. So far there have been no surprises for me at all with this set. I expected Dirge and TC to be straight repaints and Thrust to be a remold and a SS/RJ mix. Bugbite probably going to be a straight BB repaint with Dreadwing receiving the rest of the remold, since Jetfire needs remold to look like Dreadwind.

But Thrust looks very good. Probably the only seeker with whom following the G1 colorscheme works for Classics, since the colors already mixed very nicely over the main body and the wings, unlike Ramjet & Dirge.

If I could get this in a store I would buy it without a moments doubt. But not going to pay $ 300 for this set (can afford it, but won't pay those prices for a TF unless they're really, REALLY special), so I guess I won't own this. Pitty, because he does look very good and since G1 Thrust was one of my first TF's, he is special to me and it's nice to see this figure and knowing what could've have been.

But life still goes on :P

You expected Dirge to be a repaint, but Dreadwind to get remoulded!?! :wtf

I honestly don't understand TF "fans" sometimes...

Maybe it's because the Seekers have never interested me that much.

Toywise they were the same basic molds with different wings. I never really was into the cartoon and even if I was the cone-heads never featured that much in it or appeared capable of anything except flying and failing. In the US comics they also barely featured and also didn't make much of an impression.

I can also remember that with the exception of Thrust, which was a gift, I bought the Seekers relatively late. At the time we could only get the Coneheads in the Netherlands (Starscream followed later and Skywarp/Thundercracker I've only seen sold as Mexican version and that was very late 80's). If I look at my G1 Seekers Starscream & Thrust are really worn, but the others are as new because I didn't play that much with them. They were just jets: same body with different wings and very little to no characterization.

Now Dreadwind/Darkwing are another story.

Toywise they were completely new molds and were never remolded or repainted, so those were all there was. I bought them basically the moment they were released and I really loved those two molds. Both are worn from playing with them over and over again. I count these two as the last wave of really enjoyable G1 molds. They may not have featured on the cartoon, but in the comics they were present and more prominent then the Seekers, at least with speaking lines (which, admittedly, still isn't much). Also, unlike the seekers, I was aware of their bio's: Dutch packaging didn't include a bio at the time of the Seekers (just function, quote and techspecs), which changed at the time of the Masters. Besides, even now that I am aware of the bio's of the seekers, I still feel DW/DW are more interesing characters.

And then finally there's the botcon set and the choices for the molds.

G1 Dirge may not be exactly like Ramjet, but it's a lot closer match then Dreadwind from Jetfire. But with some remolds Jetfire does work as DW (as proven by Ramrider on Transtopia; although I seriously doubt they'll go that far :roll).

I you paint CL Ramjet in Dirge colors without any remolding, most will recognize Dirge in it. But if you simply paint CL Jetfire in the colors of Dreadwind then that difference is much greater.

So yeah, that to me is the most logical remold.

Exactly. The point being these are not a cartoon or a comic - they're toy releases. They should be as accurate to the toys as possible IMO.

Even if they do give Jetfire extensive remoulding (not enough can be done IMO) to make it look like Dreadwind - does anyone really care? More than getting the Jets done properly? I honestly can't see it.

Okay, maybe you have good reasons. But in all honesty - do you think you're the minority or not? I certainly think you're quite a unique case. Each to their own (not knocking your personal preferences in the slightest here) but I don't see the attraction to the toy.

I emphasized the "As possible" part, because I think that important. Botcon can only do a limited amount of remolds, unless they are willing to really let the prices skyrocket (more like $ 400-500 should they remold all of them).

With only limited remolding they have to make choices: which figures are already close enough and can do without remolding, and which really need it. As I said, the difference between G1 Dirge and CL Ramjet is less than that between G1 Dreadwind and CL Jetfire, making adaptions to the Jetfire mold more required. (That is, of course, assuming that Dreadwind will be remolded.)

Yeah, I think I'm seriously in the minority here, but I am perfectly aware that very few of the fans have the same preferance. Most will prefer to get the Seekers complete and as accurate as possible. If they wanted to please the majority of the fans a better solution would've been to give Dirge a remold and go for Darkwing instead of Dreadwind from Jetfire, since that's a closer match. For me, DW/DW are the more interesting character and their G1 toys I found more attractive and interesting than the G1 jets (I would've settled for just Starscream, Thrust and Ramjet), although I did dislike the powermaster gimmick.

Nevertheless, with the character choices they made for this botcon set making Dirge are straight repaint makes more sense (okay, IMO) since that's a closer match. Jetfire will never be a true homage to Dreadwind, but with some adaptions it can get close. That to me, makes it perfectly logical to give a potential remold to Dreadwind over Dirge.

Please note that the whole Dreadwind/Darkwing thing I posted was the thing I fear will be done at Botcon, not the thing I hope will be done.

I'd much rather seen it go like this:

Thundercracker: repaint

Thrust: remold

Dirge: remold

Darkwing: Jetfire repaint

Bugbite: Bumblebee repaint

Dreadwing: bonus figure, Starscream repaint, remold if money allowed for it (if only to have a single tail)

If the people at Botcon are smart then they've remolded Jetfire into something awesome and called it Dreadwing by mistake. If they are stupid they wasted their money on head remolds for Dreadwing and/or Bugbite. Using the remaining money just for a remolded bonus figure (leaving Thrust as the only big remold in the pack of 5) would be stupid as well.

If they show Bugbite as a remolded Bumblebee it will raise hell, no matter how cool it looks. I assure you, if they do this it will make make the Dirge thread look like a picknick. There will most definitely be rants that Botcon dared to waste money on that and not remold Dirge's wings instead.

So this Jetfire remold I think Botcon will do better be worth it.

I just had a wonderful revelation: Remold the battlepack into something that turns bare Jetfire (Darkwing) into Dreadwing.

Now THAT would be an AWESOME way to remold Jetfire and make good use of everything. And it doesn't need that much remolding, just turn the helmet guns into winglets and create an entirely new backpack and you are pretty much there.

Wait, so Bug Bite is an homage to a previous Botcon exclusive, which was in turn an homage to a Go-Bot? Who the hell wants that?

It's still a guess at this point, but given the name it's an easy guess.
