BotCon '07 Games of Deception Set Preview: Dirge

Recommended Posts

Hellion, if you are referring to my first post in this thread, I completely disagree. I did nothing other than state our position. Some in this thread are not asking questions, are not asking respectfully why we do what we do, rather they just throw insults and accuse us of being unethical with no facts and so on. Of course I take exception to that, who wouldn't?

But, to answer one question, we are limited to what we can remold. We have to be very careful in what we choose and so on. Look at the numerous toy companies out there that have FAR more resources than we do, yet they still often only do a straight repaint than new molding. Add in the fact that we are only doing a production run of well under 2000 and you can see why we must be very selective in who gets remolded. The people who decided that Dirge would be fine without a remold, that those funds should go towards other characters, have been involved with this hobby for over 20 years. We have a pretty good pool of experience and the OVERALL reaction I have seen is that Dirge is fine the way he is, especially if we put the resources for remolding towards other "more needing" characters. Guess you'll just have to wait and see if we chose wisely in your opinion.

Emperor Megatron, you are right on!

Oh, and another quick point, we don't "not" sell the toys for less because then people would not come to the show, they are part of a package deal for attendees. The system works and that system keeps the convention viable. It is that simple.

so when are gonna see the rest of the set Pete, from you guys I mean

its almost may now and I think it would benefit everyone if we saw the botcon set before the movie toys hit the shelf so people can plan accordingly

didn't someone else say he should've been in retail? This thread's so full of repitition, I may have been wrong.

I simply listed all of the repaint options that were open to Hasbro (and Botcon as well I suppose), and the ones they used. If you look below, there were plenty of options open that would have still done well as con exclusives and not opened the door for all of the angst we are seeing now.

One use only?

Here were all of their repaint options:

Bumblebee = Cliffjumper

Starcream = Skywarp, Thundercracker, Sunstorm, generic seekers....

Ramjet = Dirge & Thrust (I would have accepted straight repaints of the mold for $10 a piece)

Astrotrain = toon accurate Astrotrain

Mirage = Drag Strip

Optimus Prime = Ultra Magnus (well, because they did that one)

Jetfire = Dreadwing/wind

The only odd ones out are Megatron, Rodimus/Hot Rod & Grimlock, unless they got creative with them.

So yeah, they had plenty of options to recoup costs without screwing the majority of the fanbase.

I can say this, they will be showing up fast and furious so definitely keep an eye on www.botcon.com....oh, and way before the movie toys hit (unless more Toys R Us' keep putting them out early) :)

So you're confirming that Dirge is not getting remoulded then?

I'd like to see who thinks Dirge is fine as a remould - I think it's a disgrace to be honest. Whoever the other characters are that "need" remoulding, they don't need it more than Dirge & Thrust IMO. The main (well, only) selling point of this set to me is having the 6 Jets all together. Without them done properly this set is pathetic IMO. I don't care about BugBute, I don't care about Dreadwind & I don't care about any of the other characters - I just care having the 6 Jets done properly for the first time since G1.

Definitely a lame set IMO. But I guess I'm the minority.....

Couldn't the mold for Ramjet's wings be modified by just blocking the part that forms the tail-fins? At a basic level, Dirge is just Ramjet without the tail-fins.

I'm pretty sure the picture that started this thread confirmed that...

That would be slightly better than nothing. Still a cop-out though IMO.

The 6 Jets were done awesomely in G1 & they haven't been done properly since. The Classic line was the best chance we've had & I was really holding out hope for this set. What a kick in the teeth. :tdown

Hey Smith, shoot me an email, everytime I try to reply with quotes or send a PM I get an error message. Odd eh? But yeah, we'll talk! Thanks, Pete
