BotCon '07 Games of Deception Set Preview: Dirge

You know, I am not going to do this whole dance with you, okay maybe a quick 2 step. When production numbers are very small, productions costs go way up. Also, new molding costs quite a bit actually. So right there these stop being "$10" toys. Also, there is really no other fair way to offer the toys other than at the same price as attendees. Attendees get all the events, yes, but they pay a huge amount as far as hotel/travel/meals and so on. We are not going to then say, "hey, okay, non-attendees get them for less." It is a package formula, it has worked in the past and it is working very well this year.

Edit: Zaku, looking forward to seeing you there!

I understand that production costs go up when runs are smaller, but I have to admit that $50 for 2 mold repaints seems exessive. Is it really a 500% increase in cost?

It's amazing how this debate continues even though we've known for a couple months now that this was going to happen. It sucks, but at least they're giving us the chance to finish the Classics line (at least those that are interested in doing so at such a high price). We just have to deal with it because it doesn't look like it will change.

You are Outback probing.......er.....charging, $65.80 per figure to the non attendees. An ethical, reputable organization would not charge the same amount to nonattendees as attendees, because the non attendees aren't using the other activities you are trying to use in justification for the absolutely ridiculous price you are charging.....

I think you're missing the point of "convention exclusive" dude, most convention exclusives can only be had on the secondary market if you don't actually attend.

Indeed. That's really all there is to say about it.

Are we gonna have a ten page thread every time Botcon unveils a new part of this set?

If it were intelligent discussion of the toy design aesthetics of the said exclusives, I would certainly hope so. :thumb

And each year, the expected costs of these sets is fairly predictable as is the rough timing of the convention.

No we're gonna have a 10 page thread evey time we feel used badly. Exclusives cost more, ok. But in this case we're all wondering where the money is going. Perhaps in the interest of full disclosure our benefactors could show us a cost breakdown that would make us feel like we're paying a reasonably cost for toys and not an exess of profit margin. We're a small market. And we don't want to be taken advantage of. If that's not the case we'll shut up. If we can't see that why shouldn't we complain?

I'm not wondering.

Just saying...

Wow.......you sure do know how to act like a pompous ass to the fans, eh?

There's no possible way that you and your gang of crooks are really, truly, needing to charge/steal as much as you are for this set. I'd love to get on my paycheck the profit you are going to be gleaning from the fans buying this set.

As a previous poster said, if you could "open the books", so to speak, and prove that you really do need more money than to buy every other classics figure at mass retail, for 5 figures, there would be a lot less Starscreaming. Especially from me. If it was proven that all you are making is a modest profit (after all, this IS America, viva reasonable capitalism), I would issue a public apology and quite likely move some stuff out of my collection to buy the set.

I'm also curious as to why your company couldn't even produce a proper Dirge - you have a Ramjet painted different colors. It's like taking Rodimus Prime and painting him bright red and blue, and calling him Optimus Prime.

Bite me, 939. I'm tryin to make a point.
