If there was no movie, what would you think of the Toys?

Recommended Posts

I'd still be pretty happy with what I've seen so far.

Concepts like a Decepticon Police Car and truly distinct Ironhide and Ratchet molds are just too cool not to love. Plus I like the attempts at just making the 'Cons look alien and evil. Plus, the realistic alt. modes and less cartoony robots are a nice change of pace after the years of A/E/C.

Agrees 110 percent.

The faces don't bother me at all. I have a couple of BM figures that looked stupid when I got them but eventually accepted & grew to love.

The movie figs may not be the hugest leap in design/inovation but from what I have see it easily blows any of the Classics away in design/complexity. Bout time TFs grew up some. The Classic line is awsome but designwise really no different than the feel/look of Cybertron. People love em because they're just that G1 representations in all there G1 glory.

The movie figs however, though still toys have taken the design/complexity to a whole new level & approached it with a much more grown up feel. Hugely eviden in looking at the Voyagers.

The movie figs IMO are to classics what Sigma 6 is to regular sized joes. No comparison.

The more I see, the more I like. I think it's avery refreshing line to get. I do admit that the faces throw me off at first, but I've gotten used to those by now. I would still applaud Hasbro for trying something new even if these weren't movie toys.

I was ready for Transtech five years ago. Thats allz I've gotta say about that!

What do we get from this line that alternators didn't do better?

Toys that you can transform in less than five minutes.

Decepticons that aren't just cars.

New molds and not an army of repaints.

Affordable figures.

Ironhide.

Variety.

Weapons besides "ENGINE BECOMES A GUN".

Do you want more?

Well, "better" is subjective. I think whether the person you asked liked them equally or preferred one over the other to any degree, you would get very different reasons as to why.

What do we get from this line that alternators didn't do better?

How about "stuff that isn't a car"

Clearly you have an agenda here... and that's okay.

But the Binaltechs (which spawned the Alts) were specifically designed to appeal to adults as well as kids.

These movie toys are just that. Movie toys.

So of course they're not going to be 100% comparable to the Alternators, nor is there any good reason why they should be. Compare them to Cybertron toys if you want a fairer comparison. Or Classics.

And BTW Movie Ironhide OWNS just about any Classic ever IMO.

P.S. Loki I was totally serious in my first post. That's what I get for being a smartass, I suppose.

I'm just sayin there is nothing special about this line. Nothin new. Including the ugly heads. Toys were a secondary concern in this line and I think it shows. They're ok. Actually some of my favorite designs in this line are the non appearing ones.

Well.... as much as I agree with you on a lotta those, I will also say that this line (and the movie designs themselves) are an aesthetic departure from what we've seen before. And clearly quite a few people have been liking that. And these seem to be fairly show-accurate (or accurate to their source designs), although I suppose that could be said of the toylines for the more recent series.

I'm not sure what "non appearing ones" refers to..

Edit: Let me add to this that the movie toys seem to have a lot more bells and whistles than what have been seen before, on the average toy at least -- not just the automorph stuff, but all the flashing lights and sounds and gimmicks. If you prefer the Alts as much as I do (and I suspect you do), I think you'd agree that we would probably feel the same as the others here if the Alts had not been restricted to just cars, and if they'd had all of these various features as well.

Automorphing is new.

Or, at least as new as anything else we've seen in the last ten years or so. Was there something else you were expecting from the line?
