Gimmicks in sequals

Recommended Posts

Something that's worrying me about future sequals, is the number of gimmick features in TF's. I don't mean cyber keys or minicons I mean combining, triple changers, super modes. As fun as these are they would just enhance the feeling in non-tfan audiences that they're just watching a massive commericaial for the toyline (or more so.)

So, do you want to see more 'fun' bot features in future movies or not?

Triple changers might be possible, or at least "partial" triple changers like the Omnibots, Tracks, and a Veritech-style "gerwalk" mode - one where the third mode is really just a partial transformation.

Combiners... maybe. But in reality a combiner would be LESS durable than a similarly-sized giant robot.

As for "Super Modes"... I've always hated them. They're just as "Power Rangers-esque" as Energon Prime.

Realistic Triple changers are impossible without perhaps mass-shifting. I could see combiners working with the movie aesthetic, as th eparts of one bot could easily 'blend' with that of another, but the problem with them, I feel, is how you get combiners to come together into one bot without Power-Rangers flying around.

Nano machines?

Or how about the way Bruticus was done in that WW2 themed GI Joe/Transformers comic? ie: he was built from several damaged Transformers

I thought that perhaps a bunch of bots being re-built as one would work too, although it is sort of cheating.

Combiners would be a strech I suppose. But I'd Love it.

My biggest worry with the combiners working in live action isn't the "Power Ranger" aspect, but the sixth (or seventh) personality aspect. The notion that there is this other "soul" who only gets to come out when these five other guys combine needs to really be addressed and, possibly, changed.

Power Rangers gets away with it because we know the Rangers are still piloting the bigger robot.

Also, I think that any combiner in the movies should be a much more full combination of the robots, with as complex a transformation as the regular movie bots have, and with their parts intermingling through the entire gestalt. None of this simple "I'll be an arm!" stuff.

Transformers in the sequal will replace all their lasers and swords and guns for spring loaded plastic missile launchers.

I gotta admit the personality problem with the combiners never ocured to me until someone made an excuse for it.
