UPDATE: New Info on The Takara Renewal Releases!

Recommended Posts

There are probably still a lot more fans and potential buyers out there who don't have G1 molds or alterations of these figures than there are fans who have multiple ones, as shocking as I know that may seem to some of you.. =)

If you by potential buyers you mean the folks who let the previous reissues (and aniversary/MPOP) go on clearence, I agree there are tons of those people. I suspect that there are tons of collectors who have lots of these reissues squirreled away fromwhen they got good deals on them (clearence etc). I know quite a few who do and I don't know that many collectors. I know a lot fewer who don't have them.

I mentioned this back in the day, but the reason the TRU reissues weren't huge sellers was basically because there are really only about five-six releases that are capable of selling well. And four of them just happen to be Prime, Starscream, Megatron and Soundwave. People wanted to blame the price, but the good figures vanished at the "high" price. The real reason the TRU reissues died is that no one really remembered wanted Hoist or Skids.

Does anyone know what the packaging will be like? Do you think they will reissue ones they havnt yet like wheeljack or omega supreme? Theese would sell better than skids or grapple wouldnt they? Or are the molds gone?

Partially true, but the TRU were cheaper when they premiered. Hot Rod was something like $18 in the first wave, with OP and Magnus going for $40. Later on they expected us to pay $35 per seeker and $25 for stinkers like Hoist. Anyway, these are Japanese reissues, which are hardly comparable to the TRU debacle.

I wasn't the one that brought up TRU reissues - I think some are hoping that these Japanese figures might herald the restart/re-reissue of the domestic series, though.

My point was more that, while there is some viability to the idea of more domestic reissues, it's pretty much limited to a handful of characters.

I only caught the latter third of the time the Hasbro reissues were in TRUs. Of the 4 figures being released in this Renewal/Encore line, two were reissued by Hasbro, and I never saw either of those at all in the stores, much less on clearance. It may be a valid observation that you or others saw them on clearance for low prices, but I think it's specious reasoning to take that and simply concluse that potential buyers "let it happen". I've never seen MP Prime clearanced in any of the local TRUs, Wal-Marts, Targets, Big Lots here in the Bay Area either. MP Primes seemed to have long since disappeared from this area before ever needing to be clearanced.

The only reissues I've seen clearanced (and some of which are still findable now) were the less popular Autobots. This line is of the 4 characters that are currently the most popular and difficult to find, judging by their prices in the aftermarket. By comparison, a search on eBay for cybertron, classics, and alternators Optimus Primes does not seem to suggest any majorly unfulfilled demand for new molds of Prime.

I don't think that's been contested at all given the context of this thread. :tflaugh

Can we PRETTY PLEASE change the title of this thread to "UPDATE (as of Apr 11)..." ?

Jesus-- I wake up every morning and see "update on renewal" and pop a gut in excitement. I know, I prolly have the attention span of a goldfish, but when I'm checking the site on my phone on the lo-fi version it doesn't give dates or the subtitles, so I get all excited... I can't be the only one. ... ... maybe I could.

It sucks being special. I like my bus though. Make me feel smrt.

I'd just be happy if some of the takara reissues surfaced here.

I don't see how this is news. They've done this 3 years ago. It was called "Transformers Universe."

Maybe they'll repaint Optimus Prime Fuschia Pink this time and give it a tutu and a pair of tights as its accessories.

Damn...I hope Takara/Tomy isn't really going to do that.

I still need Prime and Starscream, and after comparing the Classics Soundwave to the original, I'd really like to have that too, so Megatron is the only one of this line that I don't need to get. Kudos to Takara for looking at the secondary market on these figures and realizing demand is still high enough to command another run of them! :thumb
