Best use for knockoffs

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I got three of the relatively recent double-sized knockoffs of the LOC Starscrean. The plastic is actually pretty decent, and the paint comes off well with alcohol leaving a white plane with grey head, foreatms, thighs, and feet (and guns). The hips were tricky to remove the thighs without breaking the connectors, but overall it's a nice little piece - for two bucks each!

So, I decided to repaint them into a new trio of seekers for my webcomic, using the names of three jet-mode Decepticon G1 characters that weren't actually seekers. Two are the micromasters Falcon and Skyhopper, while the third is the Targetmaster Misfire - Love the character, and swapped offhand weapons with Falcon (they don't want Misfire anywhere near guns, so they gave him swords)

Well, here's two of the three. The red one is Misfire and the purple is Falcon. A bright glare caught the center of Falcon's chest, and the jet modes turned out dark, but hey, I got a crappy digicam...

Anyone else practice their repainting skills on knockoffs?

I have! One of my first Kitbashes was a Grimlock made out of a KO Dinzone/Dinozaurs toy.

Haven't had much luck finding nifty knock-offs over here, so I haven't had any of those to play around with for kitbashing in a while.

Those Starscreams turned out pretty good. Was it tough to do the weapons switch?

The knockoffs are double-sized Legends of Cybertron figs, I got them at Big Lots, and they're $2 each. Most of them are relatively unmodified, but the Optimus knockoff is highly modified. For one, he's only upscaled about 1.5 x not 2x, second his feet can take Supermode, and third it includes a crude version of his Super parts - with the wings, etc, as a backpack, and the wing guns as big rifles. Didn't include the backs of the leg or their guns, however. The list is: Starscream, Hot Shot, Evac, Optimus, Megatron, and Jetfire.

biglots?

what state are you in?

There's a Big Lots in West Monroe... I'll be there for lunch tomorrow and I'll go have a look.

sweet! i'll have to keep my eyes open for these.

also, is twice the size around the same as say energon screamer?

care to take a pick to give us a size comparison of the real, ko, and e. screamer?

any chance of pics of the packing so we can see what to be looking for?

I don't have Energon Screamer so I can't compare. And they'r pretty much exactly twice the size of LOC Screamer. This makes them a hair taller than Energon basics, and about an inch or so shorter than a typical Deluxe.
