6" titanium skywarp

Recommended Posts

These aren't slight differences. These are major differences in transformation. Skywarp's transformation is actually closer to the transformation used by Classics Starscream and Skywarp, at least as far as the nose cone and legs are concerned. Except for the lower torso and legs, nose cone, and tail, Starscream's transformation is more like Cybertron Starscream's transformation, which is to be expected since Don Figuero apparently designed both versions of the character. The simple fact is that the Titanium design is fine for Thundercracker, and is very close in that regard, but is totally ill-suited for Starscream or Skywarp.

Tramp, I totally hear what you're saying and I fully agree with you.

I got the 15cm Titanium Starscream and immediately noticed that in many ways, my Galaxy Force Starscream was a better interpreation of WWI Starscream than this figure. Also, how accurate is the Titanium Jetfire to WWI Jetfire, because we got a real treat in terms of how accurate Classics Jetfire is to IDW Jetfire.

One possibility is this - who're designing the Titanium Transformers? Is it Takara or Galoob/Micromachines (which Hasbro owns)? Because if these lines are being designed by separate companies, then it could explain the difference in visual fidelity -- overall I feel that Takara have been doing a better job with interpreting War Within and IDW characters with Galaxy Force Starscream and especially Classics Jetfire.

Don does work on the 6inch Titaniums btw. :thumb

As for Skywarp, is it really that big a deal that all the seeker's have the same body? Yeah i'd be nice to have seperate molds. But one universal one is cost effective and most likely to happen.

Bring him on.

P.S Classics Jetfore was designed before Don drew him in Stormbringer

Yes, I know that. From what I understand, he designed the Titanium WW Thundercracker. The prtoblem is that Hasbro didn't go back to him to design a proper WW Starscream or Skywarp (or Sunstorm). They just copped out and did a repaint of Thundercracker. Now, for the most part, I don't usually have a problem with repaints, when it is appropriate (as with the Classics Seekers, Cliffjumper or Ultra Magnus). However, when characters have specific designs and established transformations, that is when repaints are not appropriate, and this is the case here. Don designed very specific and unique transformations for each of the Seekers in War Within, and Hasbro only used one of them, and even then it is modified somewhat, and is trying to use that same mold for all three, and it just doesn't work. It isn't true to their War Within incarnations. Thundercracker is close, but Starscream is completely wrong and looks nothing like his WW incarnation. They need to go back to Don and have him come up with proper plans for a proper WW Starscream and Skywarp using their proper transformations.

And, as far as Classics Jetfire goes, No, I am pretty sure it is the other way around. I am postive that Don had designed him for the comic first, then Hasbro used it for the Classics line.

Well its one of the Classics that Don had a hand/pencil in the design work. It takes more time to make a toy than draw a comic, so they I'd reason to say that they had a prototype ready by the end of 2005 early 2006.

The 1st Issue came out in May (the free comic book day was 2 months before that)

But this is mere conjecture, one mas ask Don for the full story.

I am glad for both versions, plastic and illustrated.

OH NOES another x-bob but instead of cannon his problem is with toy/comic accuracy :tflaugh

Now, I'm not going to get into the whole Ultra Magnus issue as there are already 2-3 threads devoted to that one at the moment, but it is most certainly NOT appropriate for Cliffjumper to be a repaint. With the exception of WST (which was just a red Bumblebee), Cliffjumper was always an entirely different car with a completely different head, that just happened to share Bumblebee's transformation scheme. They're about as similar as Alt Smokescreen and Meister.

i agree with sertile on that one, my cliffjumper will never see the light of day in robot mode on my shelf.

Oh come on... Cliffjumper's head wasn't "completely different" from Bumblebee's... they were 90% the same exact thing.

and wow is this thread anal-retentive.

But if I could add another layer of gheyness to it: it's not GEEWUN ACCURATE to make Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp look different aside from color. So IMO the Titaniums > the comics.

i'd say more like 60% but it's one of those things like "OMG just look at what a slight head remold would have done for this figure"... that's all.
