Ever substitute one TF for another when you were a kid?

Recommended Posts

Not for me. I only counted actual HasTak licensed Transformers and pre-TFs as Transformers when I was kid. I now disclude pre-TFs and only count licensed TFs.

I also realised that I have been fibbing about my gestalt purity - I am currently displaying one bastard gestalt, and that is my "Devil Sixbuilder" which comprises of two Destron chase variants of Sixbuilder and four Universe Micromaster Constructicon repaints. It's mostly because I'm just not willing to pay for the other Destron chases that I need - the Universe Constructicons were similar in colour (i.e.: primarily green) and were a cheaper substitute. ;p

bigds9fan: lol - it was only something I did as a kid. I don't do it now - if I have an incomplete gestalt set, then I just display them as individual robots. For example, I have all the Technobots but I'm missing the head and chest plate for Computron - so until I at least get the head I'm display my Technobots individually rather than combining them as some mongrelised Computron with Scattershot's head. Ditto my Targetmaster Seacons - I have no Piranacon parts other than his weapons - need hands, feet and head. They're the only "incomplete" Scramble gestalts that I have now. My only other incomplete gestalt is Lio Kaiser because I only have one Breastmaster (Jalgar).

Ditto for me. I never do it anymore. I do not display my combiners/gestalts in their combined mode as I am worried the shoulder joints and connectors will wear out.

And for the record I do not own a 100% complete Piranacon. I am missing Nautilator (which means I am not missing much).

Displaying them in their combined form does save a lot of space.

Well when I was kid could never complete a combiner team. So what my cousins, aunt, and I use to do is mix match (now I see it common with the KO combiner teams). And in the last couple of years when I started back collecting I just renamed some of the recently Transformers.

Energon Downshift = Wheeljack (too obvious but hey I was too young to get a Wheeljack figure when he was in store lol)

(I'm hopeing to get) Energon Wing Saber = Star Saber

Armada Galvatron = Armada Megatron (even when he was powered up in the show I thought of him as Megatron, the only Galvatron incarnations I consider a real Galvatron was Energon and RID Galvatron)

(Also hoping to get) Leo Breaker= Victory Leo (why not :tftongue )

(somtimes) Powermaster Prime= Ginrai (after learning about Masterforce a few years ago)

(for humor) The Cybertron verison Armada Prime= Ginrai (I have the orginal size Armada Prime)

i always considered alternator optimus prime to be optimus minor....

Orion Pax for me. :thumb

I never substituted any bot for another, but Swerve and Slingshot lived in Castle Greyskull FWIW.

I also had the radio shack Shockwave that we used as Shockwave. Plus we used go-bots and those cheap k-mart knock-off ones, those generic "transformable" robots that they used to sell there beside the transformers for pennies on the dollar. Those guys were the gun-fodder guys who always got killed. Then we would build small robots out of legos to supplement the forces, usually decepticons, to be used as cannon-fodder drones. When the autobots blew them up, sometimes we would take the lego "drone" and throw it against the wall to smash it to bits. Always elicited a response from the parents, though.

We also used the legos to make cities and buildings and craft for the transformers to destroy and they were forever saving the silly little lego people.

On a different type of substitution, my parents were not inclined to get us a Millenium Falcon, so they bought, at a rummage sale for a quarter, a large-scale version of the ship from Space:1999. That long, white ship that had a front module that came apart and huge red engines. so that was our Falcon. Chewie barely fit, but hey, it was better than nothing and when you're little and use your imagination, it really didn't matter as long as we had something to play with. :)

Chris

My childhood was filled with pretending Gobots were TFs. ...and my loved ones wonder why I collect TFs now....pppffttt!

Ok, are you ready for the worst? Mom never bought me Galvatron. So I took Lion-O from Thundercats and tied a black marker to his arm for the arm canyon and called him Galvatron.

sad as it is when I was a kid here in the UK we couldnt get blaster as he was never released so soundwave used to sub in for him, sad I know seeing as they look nothing alike

I also used to sub in Ultra magnus white cab for ghost prime and hate plague prime like shockwave 2005
