Classics Thrust

Recommended Posts

I actually had some creative impulsives today, and got around to just about completing my Custom Thrust idea. (left overs to be used for a second classic custom idea I had...)

At any rate, was so impressed with Ramjet, figured that there had to be a Thrust. And it's not clear if they will make one or not...

What I did was use a mix of Starscream and Ramjet parts, obviously a nose cone swap was about it. Though I really would have liked the longer point of the jet mode, I think it worked out rather well.

Made a scale paper template of the original G1 Thrust wings, and overlayed it onto Starscreams wings, cut and drilled out the shapes. Used model clay to make the housing, and believe it or not, the perfect fan's for the wings came from a couple of those party favors you blow into that makes the WHIRRRRRRRR noise. If there was a ring version, it would have probably made a functional fan... Was hard enough to drill out the hole in the wings though. Had to use progressively bigger drill bits, making the hole bigger and bigger. Dremel chopped the excess, came out decent.

The real challange was the rear wings. Didn't do a bad job at all there, a lot more functional than I expected. Idea came to me this morning and got my mind off other things. It looks simple but it wasn't. First chopped off the top wings, and got the pin out of the small tail. Having done that, got the idea that the longer wings would be even better if they could fold up, and would make things easier to mount. So notched it, cut out the excess with the dremel, and drilled a hole through the slot. Then took the side wings and made a notch in the bottom hinge part so it makes a C to clamp on to the end of the wing. A little trim of the longer wing and some glue, it all fit back together nicely.

Paint, as usual is not perfect, but still working on that. So far have the basic G1 colors from head to toe, not dry yet and not rushing to avoid finger prints, but looks decent so far. Will have to figure on how to incorporate G1 finishing details and add some classic flair to the stripes on the wings and top of the jet. Wish I knew where I put those Decepticon symbols...

At any rate, take a look. Can't wait for it to be done my self...

On to project 2.

pretty cool

I'm gonna have to borrow your idea me thinks :schin

Here's a few rushed ones. Could not resist during half time.

Also be warned, if you repeat this, I snapped the custom hinge on one of the rear wings, painted it and forgot to ease it into position and it went SNAP. So rear wings on mine may not fold up any more.

All most forgot jet mode...

Very nice! Really hope to see an official one done like this.

That's hot. I'd totally do one myself if I didn't hate painting so much.
