see, the videos on the movie's websie indicated that starscream will have the same persona as he did in G1. that's why i dont like that bay seemed it fit to make him fat. if he had a different persona, then he could look like that. only persona i can see working well with such a body is demolishor...

the designs work for me except for starscream. yes he's different and that's fine, but man he should NOT be fat! at least make him slender and with hands! he can have a new face as long as it can show the same sinister expressions G1 starscream had! if he is to match his G1 persona, he needs the same high pitched voice, and a fat robot with that kind of voice will NEVER go with that type of persona. there's no reason why he has to be so damn fat

See, that's the logic that's hurting the responses to the film... not to single you out personally, of course, but it's a reboot. There's no reason for him to "match his G1 persona" any more than there has been in any of the recent lines with a "Starscream" charachter. Honestly, I'm thinking that most of the reused G1 names are going to be more for the purpose of ringing a mental bell of recognition in the people who might remember watching Transformers, but not much else. It's not supposed to be G1 Starscream, it's just a jet that turns into a robot and steps on humans who happens to share a name with G1 Starscream. It would be like saying that Bob Saget should be handy with power tools, because Bob Vila is handy with power tools, and they're both "Bob", so there's no reason that shouldn't be the case.

I don't agree. The writers wrote the characters with their G1 personae in mind. The visual update was done to make them not look retarded onscreen.

pete is right. basic-looking bots would make the movie fail instantly. and besides, there's no reason to change great personas anyway! bay at least recognizes the same thing my sig image says......to an extent

 

megatron...could he work? i cant judge any opinions on him until i see his face making "megatron-esque" expressions. but i would rather he didnt have that

"normal mode" because battle mode just plain looks better. let the bot keep his plating!

 

and it's hard to hate the cop car and chopper bots. i liked them both when i first saw pics of them. but i'll be damned if i can remember their names!

You keep saying Starscream is "fat". But he's really not, he's just large and more bulky cause he's done in a way that won't make him ridiculously bigger than everyone else, since he's a large jet...a jet that would make him tower over Prime and everyone else. So to compromise this, he is bulky and wide and built so he doesn't simply tower, being nearly twice the height of Prime on screen. Which makes a lot of sense, if you wnat to keep SS more on the managable scale of things. And he DOES have hands supposedly, just on the toy, the hands were the missile launchers (there is no telling if that's how the final film design will be handled).

Seriously, just look at the ridiculous caveman-based fans that are isolated in the past. How exactly do you think the creators of this film are going to make the designs based off of G1? It will NOT happen, this is a live film with Transformers in REAL LIFE, not a cartoon or Anime. They need to wake up and get a sense of contemporary, Hasbro are not going to use old retro G1 designs from the 80's and put those designs into the movie. Wake up old schoolers!

as was said when that script leaked, there was PLENTY of g1 moments and a g1 feel to it. going from the trailer it doesn't look to have changed THAT much. i was talking about this movie earlier today with a none tf fan. he grew up with 'em, and looked kinda "eh" when i showed him prime's design, but after watching the new trailer he said "damn, that looks Powerglideing sweet", which i think will be the majority of movie goer's reaction. after that my wife said "you know you Starscream about the movie, but you know your still gonna go see it"
