Do minicons cause a drug-like dependacy?

:lol

Now if they had just addressed the TF's "habit" in the show, it would have been sooo much more entertaining.

But is it a chemical dependency, like heroine, where they need the minicons, or they get physically ill.

Or is it more like LSD, where it's not physically addictive, but you need to use more and more to get the same high?

I'd have to go with the latter, cuz in armada, each tf had a partner minicon, but kept looking for more to increase their power.

Do minicons cause a drug-like dependacy?

No, just a massive rip in time, space, and TF fandom.

What I really dislike about the AEC TFs as opposed to the G1 TFs is that they're really shallow and one-dimensional characters - moreso in the dubbing than in the original Japanese script.

Aside from a variety of special abilities, the G1 Transformers also displayed a wide variety of personalities; particularly with personality quirks that seem to be lacking in AEC (although the Cybertron TFs do have some interesting personalities in the toy continuity).

For example, in A/E/C Optimus Prime and Megatron are very run-of-the-mill cartoon villains. Megatron is really bad and evil and Optimus Prime is the flawless and infallable hero. The Autobots are all pretty much the same - good guys all fighting to defend the Autobot cause. The Decepticons are even simpler - nearly mindless drones willing to follow the beck and call of their leaders; the only one with a semblance of an interesting personality was Starscream, but I found that the dubbing really destroyed most of that characterisation anyway (the Japanese version is far more emotive - a lot like Dinobot).

Here's just a few examples of some interesting characters with noteable personality quirks from G1:

+ Silverbolt - Aerialbot leader who transforms into a supersonic jet and happens to be scared of heights.

+ Broadside - suffers from both sea and air sickness despite transforming into a ship and plane.

+ Breakdown - suffers from extreme paranoid delusions.

+ Dead End - emo

+ Mirage - unsure of Autobot cause

+ Thundercracker - unsure of Decepticon cause

+ Bumblebee - desperately seeks approval from other Autobots

+ Trailbreaker - powerful defender, but is reluctant to use his power because it drains fuel so badly.

+ Starscream - trecherous

+ Snarl - likes to be alone

+ Cosmos - is always alone but hates it

+ Powerglide - egotist

+ Soundwave - extremely selfish, trecherous and despised by all Decepticons. Quite similar to Swindle, only that Swindle is greasier in his dealings.

+ Perceptor - brilliant but absent minded

+ Wheeljack - brilliant but is his own worst enemy

+ Tailgate - very misguided liberalist

+ Pipes - obsessive compulsive disorder, anyone?

+ Wheelie - dick

+ Ratbat - auditor -- I like how the Decepticons' missions have a fuel budget and how Ratbat holds the power to abort missions if they exceed this budget. It makes sense.

+ Rumble - just a real big jerk

+ Frenzy - sadist

+ Ravage - ninja

...the list goes on.

I got thinking about this when I compaired the personalities and abilities of the AEC TF's to the G1 TF's and I realized that the former are really inferior to the later. the AEC tf's can barely think for themselves and their combat abilities seem to consist mostly of running around and shooting at eachother without employing any real strategy. plus, the AEC TF's technology is really inferior compaired to that of the G1 TF's. the later could mass-shift, teleport, cloak, clone, combine, project holograms, harness sub-space, convert earth-based powersources into energon, use all kinds of complex weapons aside from the standard laser pistols and that was just the first two years. some AEC TF's can't even activate their own weapons without a minicon or a force chip to unlock them. so i started thinking "What in the AEC universe could possibly have caused such a societal and mental 'retardation' that the tf's in this universe are so inferior to the tf's in the G1 universe?" and the answer came to me: "Minocons". unlike the G1 universe, the tf's of the AEC universe spent the majority of their own Great War fighting it with nothing but minicons. the AEC tf's must have relied on minicons so much that their other abilities must have entropied. in fact, it wouldn't surprise if the Unicron of that universe planned it that way. the AEC version of Unicron isn't exactly the chaos bringer of G1. in fact, he's barely more than a highly advanced weapon which was probably built by the AEC universe's equivilent of Primacron(Sideways?). so in order to conquer the tf's, the unicron weapon creates the minicons to act as a narcotic and make the tf's overtly dependant on them, thus causing their personalities and technologies to stagnant.

does this explaination make sense to you guys?

OR you could just realize that the original G1 cartoon writers were creative, and the A/E/C writers... not so much.

Oh, and Unicron created Sideways, not vice versa. He also made the Minicons.

You know, the quirks and issues that G1 TFs "suffered" from are some of the most memorable things in G1.

Take the Constructicons for example:

Scavenger was considered worthless by everyone, but Scrapper tried to respect him and wanted him around even though he still made fun of him. Hook was "above" every other Constructicon. Long Haul hated his job but knew he had to stick around. Bonecrusher was a violent idiot compared to the others and seemed like he didn't fit, yet he was appreciated and respected. Mixmaster is crazy but he works great within the group, despite his mental health. Each Constructicon had a quirk or issue that made them unique and fit within the group...like most TF groups. The G1 TFs really had some nice unique characters...well above the standard cookie-cutter 'bots.

Finally! A real question!

I say yes. It's pretty much what I called the "Optimus Prime Power Up Syndrome," where a Transformer can't do any actual fighting without linking up with a Mini-Con. It gets so bad that it creates a psychological feedback that if you don't have a Mini-Con handy, you can't do squat.

Hornet posts make me sad.

Sounds plausible

especially when you look at all of the collectors who are addicted to the little buggars too :tflaugh

Yep, I know I'm addicted to the little buggers, I can't get enough of them! :thumb

Slight variation - the Cigarette syndrome!

There may be a combination of "physical" addiction (they start to twitch without them) and psychological addiction.

After all, let's say Alternators Hound, who only has a dinky pistol but is okay with that, suddenly finds an A/E/C Minicon who has a gun alt mode. Now all of a sudden his firepower has jumped, and he's more effective in battle.

But, wait, a Decepticon figures this out, and roasts the dimension-hopping minicon! Hound is back to where he was, with his dinky little pistol!

Shuddering with his sudden lack of firepower, poor Alt Hound becomes a wreck, twitching in need for his little companion, even to the point where he will borrow other Alt's larger weapons, just to get rid of the shakes. And if caught in combat, the once valiant Autobot becomes a nervous wreck as his pistol just doesn't have the firepower he needs!

Remember, just say 'no' to mini-cons!
