I Love Transformers!

Batman and co have had comics which never ended, but is very discontinual in toys.

Also I saw the question on Barby, they do have movies, several CGI ones. Also they have the bonus that some of their 'elder toys', are worth a load more then any of the most valuable TF toys.

I knew about the direct to video Barbie movies but I have never heard of a "theatrical" release. If we went with DVD movies I think Dragonball (or Mary Kate & Ashley) might be the winner.

Batman has been around since 1939 - 67 years,

Superman has been around since 1938 - 66 years,

Spiderman has been around since 1962 - 44 years,

But have these franchises had their toys continuously in production since their inception?

That's the wrong question to ask. Transformers was primarily a toy line that marketed itself through media. Superman etc. were primarily media that (sometimes) marketed themselves through toys. The more appropriate question is, "was Superman/Batman/Spider-Man/whatever ever out of print?"

But really.... something that's been around for 22 years is just not going to have the same pop culture impact as something that predates WWII.

That's exactly it - Batman/Superman are comic franchises whereas Transformers is a toy franchise, so it's not really a fair comparison.

Again, is it really fair to compare Transformers with something that has a much longer history than it?

I think it would be fairer to compare Transformers with other action figure lines that were released in the 1980s, such as Gobots, Masters Of The Universe, Gem, She-Ra, M.A.S.K., TMNT etc. - when we compare Transformers with any of these other lines, we can see that Transformers has been the most enduring; all the others have had moments of discontinuation. Some people argue that G.I. Joe has been even more enduring, but I submit this:

1/ Strictly speaking, G.I. Joe is not an 80s toy line as they've been around since the 60s. The 80s incarnation was "G.I. Joe A Real American Hero" (aka G.I. Joe An International Hero).

2/ I'm not a G.I. Joe fan, but I believe that G.I. Joe ARAH has had moments of discontinuation - certain years where the line was not in production. I know someone will correct me on this if I'm wrong. If my suspicion is right, then Transformers has out-endured ARAH. If I'm wrong, then ARAH would arguably be the only 80s action figure line that has endured as long as Transformers has.

I'm not the one who made it. *shrug*
