Considering it was the 80's, I probably would've gone with the old Hanna-Barbara/He-Man naming convention of "what it is +or/ar." In this case Prime most likely would have been Truckor, or something along those lines.

Once upon a time, I would like to think that Transformer names could never stoop that low. But then Beast Machines came along and gave us names like "Tankor." And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse than that, RiD came along and gave us "Mo-Vor," "Ro-Tor" and "X-Brawn." Excuse me for a moment while I huddle into a corner and cry now...

Oh come now, there's been bad names since the beginning...

PicK-up Truck

Scorponok

Erector

Sizzle, Fizzle, and Guzzle sound more like an alka-seltzer commercial than an Autobot squad...

Banzai-tron

Actionmaster sidekick Gatoraider (All actionmaster sidekicks, really)

And honestly, you can't slam Tankor without slamming nearly the entire Beast WARS cast. Tarantulas? Dinobot? Cheetor? Rattrap? WASPINATOR?

Half the time I think they picked those characters to showcase instead of guys like Razorclaw and Jetstorm just because they knew the names were so dumb they had to do EXTRA work to get the toys to sell...

What if he was effeminate?

Would the name Lori go over well?

How about Liberator or Voltranz (hehehe Voltron and Tranzor Z memories)

X-Brawn was really, really stupid when I first heard it. Right along with Sideburn, Jackpot, Eject, Whirl, Octopunch, Vroom, Windbreaker, Gobots (the G2 Autobot), and Calcar.

longhaul? i voted other. thinking of an 80's style truckish name for prime really is difficult

"The best of those who can only be divided by themself and one."

(And I'd write in the series bible that there would be no abbreviating; the full name would have to be said each time he was referred to.)

I agree 100%. I mean, think about the name "Hot Rod". What does he turn into? A hot rod. They must have spent all of three seconds thinking up that one. (Don't get me started on "Rodimus Prime" either.) "Ultra Magnus"? I guess that means "Really Big".

But Beast Wars was definitely the worst offender. Cheetor. Rhinox. Rattrap. Dinobot. Tarantulas. If they hadn't carried over the leaders from G1/G2, you know Primal and Megs would have been called "Gorillor" and... well, "T-Wrecks".

Gorillor would have kick balls.

Out of the original Beast Wars names...Rattrap always seemed to be the best name. Cause it's like an actual G1-ish type name and isn't just a few letters tacked on to an animal. Terrorsaur, Airazor, and Inferno also had great names IMO.

"Rattrap" is G1-ish, isn't it.

Of course, so are "Megatron", "Scorponok", and "Dinobot". :tflaugh
