Good job.

Sometimes it makes you look like the bad guy, but when they really think about it, not only should they be pleasant with you, they should appologize to you for lying.

And even if it was store policy, the law dictates that they would have to honor your request, because that is considered false advertisement, which is illegal here in the United States. Even if it was a corporate screw up and they misprinted the signs omitting something or including something that they shouldn't have. Sucks for their policy (if it were in fact, real), but they would have to eat it legally, regardless of any store policy.

This reminds me of the time when I went to an auto parts store and got some extremely bad advice from the employee at the counter.

I walk into the place to get some gear oil, to change the oil in my manual transmission of my car as routine maintinance (and because I'm sure it was never done with the previous owners)...

So I walk in and say to the dude at the counter- "Can you look up an oil weight number and quantity for my car's transmission in your computer for me so I know what to get off the shelf?"

Dude at the counter-

"Oil for your transmission? You mean ATF?"

Me-

"No, I need gear oil for my manual transmission. Not ATF. It's not an Automatic transmission."

Dude at the counter-

"You don't put oil in your transmission. You can really screw things up by doing that."

Me-

"Trust me, it uses gear oil, it's a manual transmission."

Dude at the counter-

"ATF is for transmissions. Gear oil is for axles and things like that."

Me-

"If you don't believe me, look it up in your computer. I need to know the quantity anyways."

Dude at the counter-

"What kind of car is it?"

Me-

"It's my brothers 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo. The turbos have a bigger transmission."

Dude at the counter-

"It should take about six quarts of ATF."

Me-

"No. It doesn't use ATF. This is a manual five speed transmission. ATF stands for Automatic Transmission Fluid."

Dude at the counter-

"In all of my years working on a car, I've never seen a car that didn't use ATF in the transmission."

Me-

"Have you ever worked on a manual transmission?"

Dude at the counter-

"I preffer to drive automatics, so I have never needed to. It uses ATF, I gaurantee it."

Me-

"What kind of gaurantee do you have on your products?"

Dude at the counter-

"We only gaurantee our fluids as standard with all our products from being free of manufacturer defects."

Me-

"So, if I use Automatic Transmission Fluid in my Manual transmisson as you are suggesting and as a result, I shell my tranny because it's not heavy enough, would that qualify as being defective?"

Dude at the counter-

"No. That's not what I mean. I'm saying that I can gaurantee that your car uses ATF."

Me-

"Okay, what kind of ATF do I use? Type-F or Dexron III? Can you look it up?"

Dude at the counter-

"Most cars use Dexron III."

Me-

"I know that most Automatics use Dexron III, but I just want to be sure."

Dude at the counter-

(looks it up after 2 minutes of arguing)"What? It says here that it takes 5 quarts of 85W90 Hypoid Gear oil. I've never heared of that. That doesn't seem right. Let me get the manager."

Manager to the dude at the counter-

"Yeah. All manual transmissions use standard oil. You'll destroy a manual tranny in minutes if you use any kind of ATF."

Dude at the counter-

"Wow. I guess you learn something new every day."

Me-

"And you would have learned on my money and efforts if I didn't know any better and just took your advice like any other customer should be able to do. Don't give advice unless you know it to be a fact, man. Especially when it comes to cars, because you can seriously screw someone out of thousands over a simple mistake."

The only stupid questions are the ones that are thought of and never asked.

Always get proof when something is questionable. At least then you'll know for sure about what the truth is next time.

wow cool story so what scouts were they

I'm happy I read that. Usually I just see "Words, words, words" NEXT!!!

That was good to know if I ever plan on buying an ass load of toys like that.

I wish that worked for their Buy two get one free.

My birthday, of all days, I find Titanium. Thundercracker and Jetfire and Smokescreen. I wanted to go "Jetfire+Smokescreen=Free Thundercracker" when I got to the register, I purposely handed her each bot to scan in order to confirm the sell, however the computers (DAMN TECHNOLOGY! DAMN THE MATRIX!) had the lesser of equal value as the freebie. SO instead of shaving off a few bucks, I pay for both Titaniums...

lol

that'd have been nice. i paid for Titanium thundercracker and Titanium jetfire and got Titanium OP :-P

Well, knowing that they have classics and I'm getting a temp part-time job next week to help out a family friend, I'll have some extra money to buy some of them. I'm probably going to go and pick up Clscs Megs, Prime and Cyb Quickmix. So it's good.

Oh man, you are my hero. I would have just left and come back later, but you put up the fight I've always dreamed of putting up. I think I'll try this when I go to get Prime and Megatron later today- two scouts please!!!!

So... ten minutes wasted on the phone - I went out that day, and lo and behold! Voyager Classics sitting on the shelf.

/Snip boring story telling people that *SHOCK* toy store employees don't really give a crap.

Seriously, man. They are just there for the paycheck, unless you get one of the few people that actually are interested in toys they aren't gonna give you accurate info. Do they know what Transformer Classics is? Probably not, since it's not on their packaging to identify them as such...

Oh and to the dude that started this? Good job sticking to your guns, but the manager probably thought you were a scalper though. It might have been why he was giving you a hard time.

Me? I would have just had the girl ring it all up and then say something if it didn't ring up properly.
