Quick commnet to Mike: The hood does open. Take a look at the supersized image on TFormers, you'll see the crack. Also see the pics here: The hood opens reverse.

 

Sure there's a piece break around the hood but look at this pic:

At the front the hood is screwed to the front bumper and the rear of the hood is attached to the hinge at the base of the windsheild. I cant see how the hood would open without taking the front bumper with it.

...although...now that I look closely at the toy....(1)the purple joint would have to detach for the hood to come up and (2) I see no hinge(s) at the front of the hood.....Leaves me to believe that I may be wrong about it being able to open....hmmm.....but does it really matter of there's no engine there to see? "checkout what's under the hood...this baby's got 1 catpower!"

Don't forget that people said the same about Mirage's hood, but it was hinged correctly after all.

How are modifications necessary? I can transform my Alt. Mirage perfectly fine and have the hood open the proper way when in car mode.
