Why do the 3" Titaniums have such horrible detail?

Recommended Posts

I've been holding my tongue since the 3" figures came out and I figured someone would have taken the opportunity to detail a standing, non-transforming figure beautifully. Even posing them should have been looked at with better attention. After looking at the Satr Wars and Battlestar Galactica Titanium lines, those vehicles look great, the TF Titaniums on the other hand, they look cheesy. And they are undeserving of my money.

You have to see them in person. They have plenty of detail. In fact, I don't even know why they're being sold as 3" figures when none of them are that tall at all. They're more like 2" tall. Plus they're at least partially die-cast. All that considered, I think they did a really good job. But you can make anything look crappy if you zoom in on it close enough.

mmm....... KAY!

Or if you look at the somewhat prevailent "TF taking a powerdump" pose......

Or if you see the piss poor paint apps - I saw a G1 Optimus 3" Titantium where the silver mouthpiece paint was slopped all the way up to and on his ear.

I have Autobot Jazz and his detail blew me away. He mimics Alt Jazz almost perfectly. After I bought him I got G1 Bumblebee and Alt Smokescreen. I know I might be looked at as biased but Bumblebee is awesome. He doesn't have all the articulation that I desire but for a posable 2" statue, he'll cool as Blot. He has wrist, shoulder, neck and waist articulation. His gun is cool too. I just pose him all day. My daughter is trying to take him from me too.

Smokesreen................he's a one pose wonder. His arms kill any fun poses.

I think the 3" figures are very nice and fun to have. They do have nice detailing and good paint applications. When I bought G1 Prime, I saw several of them, and each one had a nice paint job. The only one that I don't have is Cybertron Megatron, and then only because I think Cybertron Megatron itself is butt ugly.

I had decided to not buy any of the 3 inch figures back when they were announced, but when I had money burning a hole in my pocket and no other new Transformers in sight...I decided, what's five bucks? That quickly turned into $80 as I bought the whole lot of them :D

Now that I've busted them open I actually like having a little display of them, kind of like the PVCs only...not.

I do notice some quality control issues with the paint applications, but I just filter through the several of each figure they have and pick out the best one.

I have seen them in person and I agree that the Alts are the better looking out of the line so far. I almost broke down and bought Jazz and Bumblebee but just looking at them made my wallet hide. I think the KT figures are done better.

Bumblebee is awesome. And of course you have to find the one with the best paint apps (like that wasn't a NIGHTMARISH issue for the HoC figures though). 20th Prime is great, so are Alt Smokescreen and Jazz, Sideswipe is kinda meh though. BW Megs is awesome, BW Primal is all right.

well, to me these are more like little figures that the Japanese sells alot, they're not meant to have too many poseablity, 6" guys, on the other hand, are. I found bumble bee the other day, and I regret not getting it now... :tfsad
