why would they do that? Did they do similar things for Spider-man fans? Or X-men fans? or Daredevil fans? or Batman fans? or Harry Potter fans? or Davinci Code fans?

you mean the last two? no. I only included them because I know they had big fan bases before the movie was announced, and I didn't want my list to be solely comic movies.
