Why will we never see a TF cartoon with out annoying kids?

Recommended Posts

Beast wars and machines I think were more aimed at teens and older, rather than kids, so it didnt need that kind of hing to releate to as kids grow out of that kinda thing.

As for people that say americans do a better job at characterising.... wow have you not seen the pap comeing out in the movie industry, or in the cartoons? dull, undeveloped, generally crap characters.. it gets old... fast.

The japanese have the ability to fully develop characters, make them deep along with the storys they are involved in.

I'm not saying americans cant do it, they can do it. But money is being chosen over talent and thats were it fails to deliver.

Japanese stuff isnt perfect, which it isnt. The kids in armada were annoying. Made even more so by the usa script (not seen micron legend, but from others i have seen like sonic x etc americans really butcher and cheese up and bastardise jap made shows)

as for kicker, I didnt find him annoying at all. I actually thought it was a step to making the thing more mature as he was older. But each to their own I supose...

Galaxy force on the other hand was a step down. They kept having the kids watch the battles and stuff on an invisable camera or someting commenting and all that and it got a bit annoying. But as its a kids show, who are we to complain at all? we are mostly adults here after all.

Well I understand that in a way some might think that kids are needed to get kids attention but I don`t think so. I think that a full 3D CGI Transformers show set soley on Cybertron could really work great.

Daniel annoyed the heck out of me when I was a kid. Kids tune in for the Transformers, not for the children in the show.

Kids help the kids relate to the TF's.

not really, the reason why AEC had so many overbearing human characters was to make up for the lack of characterization among the tf's themselves. the japanese just aren't as good at characterizing non-human characters as american writers are.

See I disagree. I find the characterization of the TF charaters in the Japanese shows rather well done. Well in GF as least. Haven't seen undubbed versions of Aramda/Micron Legend or Energon/Superlink.

In GF at least it was the dubbing that screwed up the characterization and made the kids more annoying, they are far less annoying and several things they say and do make a little more sense the way they are written in the Japanese version.

And lets be honest, G1 didn't really have that much characterization beyond a few core characters, they were trying to spotlight a new guy almost every episode, so really you got shallow sterotype personalities for half the bots.

BW however is still simply the best written show done so far. BM is pretty damn good to. Not quite my kind of show, but it is well done even if its not my favorite.

I was able to ignore most of the kids, notable exceptions being that little fat B*****D from Armada and Kicker.

Oh how I hate Kicker. :redface

Daniel in the G1 cartoon was annoying but at least he was not in every episode and even if he was he did not always have a leading role forced upon him like Kicker had.

Season 3 had many memorable episodes like the two with Starscream and Dark Awakening. The first 2 had no Daniel at all but Dark Awakening had. There Daniel actually played a minor role which was not forced or anything. It just seemed like a natural addtion.

I do not mind Transformers and human interaction but it has to be done in a realistic way. So no kids. Unless it is done as it was in the G1 comic where Buster was used. I really liked that.

But Kicker was literally foced onto the cartoon and that helped make him even more unbearable. Having the Transformers need him to find Energon is the dumbest story idea ever. It comes just after the Armada kids being needed to communicate with the Mini-Cons.

I think no matter which country one is from, writers always have the ability to develop characters. Of course time and money is needed which is often lacking. And to me it seems that the Japanese have a harder time characterizing Transformers than they have with humans.

The last 3 shows did not really produce any memorable characters (aside from Kicker whom is universally hated) unlike Beast Wars or Beast Machines which had cool characters up the yin-yang.

I recently watched BM as I got it on DVD. One of the highlights is Jetstorm. Not only was he evil but he also had humor. And not to forget Tankor. I was so shocked when I learned that he was actually Rhinox!

Now that was excellent storywriting.

In recent Japanese cartoons they seem insistant on giving the kids an ability that the Tfs don't have just to try and excuse their very being there.

Beast Wars did a good job without having kids in it.

GO WITH THE FLOW'D :tflaugh

Beast Machines = only TF series with no kids at all, at any stage of evolutionary development

that episode was among the worst, and not just because of the kids. rhinox farting was a bad one too.

my point was that the japanese are not very good at characterizing NON-HUMAN characters. oh sure, they can easily develop a character so long as they're human or at the very least look human. ask them to characterize something completely alien like a giant robot or a non-humanoid alien and their minds will draw a complete blank.

Then the mind wanders. Next thing you know we have tentacle Transufomah! scenes...
