not really, the reason why AEC had so many overbearing human characters was to make up for the lack of characterization among the tf's themselves. the japanese just aren't as good at characterizing non-human characters as american writers are.

There's only so much characterization you can put in a human when you're forced to keep it within the limits of american parental ratings.

The kids are just there to make kids who are watching the series to feel like they can help big robots as well, even though I think in real life if Transformers really did exist in that way, they would have stepped on any number of kids by now either by accident or on purpose.

I just feel the need to point out the BM had Nightscream for nearly the entire series. He was bad enough to replace all the kids from every series, and he had hair.

Man, do I hate the kids or what. Especially Kicker.

 

It is bullBlot to say that kids need to see kids in the show to identify with Transformers. Heck when I was a kid I would fantasize about being a Transformer myself or at best to be a Headmaster's partner. No one wanted to be the normal human.

 

Who wants to be the big red blot on the street?

 

The Japanese characters are among the lamest ever (aside from Sky-Byte) and that really makes the last few seasons terrible.

 

Sure G1 was not a perfect cartoon but at least it had plenty of memorable characters. And no annoying kids.

 

No Transformer would ever take a kid along. Say the kid was hurt, they would be liable for that. And since Transformers have neither lawyers or money getting sued would be a huge issue. :tftongue

 

Allthough, I suspect Kicker's dad wanted that little runt to die considering he never stopped Kicker from doing something stupid. If the Japanese had put any realism in Energon he would have died in the first episode. :tftongue

 

I hoping they fix that in a comic one day just like they did with Daniel and Wheelie. Come on IDW give me some of that sweet stuff. :tftongue

the only kids that ever realy bother me was Billy and Fred(armada) and iam sure you known what i mean.

 

BW did have thoughs cavekids that always hanged around with Cheetor and Blackaracnia (and yea i known i cant spell her name :redface ) they kinda got on my nerves.

It is bullBlot to say that kids need to see kids in the show to identify with Transformers.

yes and no. Stories will often have a character who will carry the main narrative drive of the plot and allow the audience to see the story through their eyes. For Star Wars, it was See-Threepio and Artoo Detoo; and entire space saga told through the eyes of two members of it's lowliest caste - droids. This was an idea which Lucas took from Kurosawa Akira (who would often use peasantry to drive the narrative for a samurai epic).

 

And not all TF kids are annoying. The kids in the G1 comics were all right. Buster and Spike were never annoying afaik. In fact, the more annoying humans were often adults like Donny Finkelberg (a.k.a. The Robot Master) and Nestor Forbes (a.k.a. The Mechanic <--really, really annoying!).

 

The fact is that so long as Transformers are going to inhabit a world filled with human-driven vehicles like cars and planes, then you will invariably have human characters!

 

Beast Wars had very limited exposure to humans because they lived in pre-historic times. Beast Machines had no exposure because it was set on Cybertron.

 

But to say "I want Transformers with alt modes based on human-made vehicles but with no humans in the story" is an unfair and unrealistic expectation IMO.

 

I agree that having kids tag along is stupid. If you're going to have a human sidekick, have a plausible reason like a scientist (e.g.: Dr. Arkeville).

Are you Blotting me? The G1 cartoon had the single most annoying human in the entire history of Transformers!
